Having a label on the actual cd is a nice finishing touch in my opinion. It looks professional and adds to the whole complete package.
The only drawback to the cd labels is they are adversely affected by the heat. The cd player in my car makes my cd's real hot to the touch, even after playing them a short while, so I can't play any cd's that have homemade labels on them because they'll melt right off into my cd player. Same thing goes with leaving the cd's in a wallet in the car, the heat will cause the labels to bubble.
Just something to consider. Still, I vote for the labels - we've gone this far, why not go all the way with the project and make it look as slick as possible? Just make sure everyone who gets a cd is fair warned.
