I see your point musically. Especially compared to say the chems it is definitely not as sonically rich and diverse . It 's down stated compared to their big beats hits. However, I think the album has a very subtle sound that really works. The album is much more about the lyrics than a lot of traditional electronic music. To me it reminds me of bands like camouflage or even depeche mode with a more modern twist. I mean the songs almost have a verse chorus format. Which Underworld never does! I really like the way Underworld has just done such different sounds the last couple albums. Though i still want them to get their DJ back and put out a big beat athem album.

Nah, Barking's a good album. Not Underworld's best album, but still a pretty good one. Can't wait to hear the alternate versions on the limited edition Barking - these are probably gonna be the original Underworld mixes, probably better too.
Anyone else find it interesting that The Chemical Brothers come out with one of their most expereimental albums, with no collaborations, at the same time Underworld comes out with one their most commercial albums, with almost only collaborations? I'm really curious to see how Further and Barking will compare in the long run.
In The Infants !
My first Underworld album, great place to start.

My first Underworld listen was Cowgirl off of the Hackers soundtrack. YEYAH! Such a great soundtrack... Prodigy's Voodoo People, Orbital's Halcyon + On + On... Mmmmmm...
Beaucoup Fish is a more solid album, I think, than Second Toughest in the Infants. But Pearl's Girl--man, what a track.

Or if you can get a copy of the Live in Tokyo 2005 3 cd set. Superb is the only word to describe it.

But if you want a taste of their highest levels of sheer awesomeness, you really have to go with Juanita off of STITI. It's their Reel. Better yet, listen to one of the 20-plus-minute live versions they did in the 90's:
It takes them 8 minutes before they use any part of the original track.
As for Barking, I'm holding out on listening to the whole album until it officially comes out in America. Of course, since most of the songs are versions of already-available demos, that doesn't stop me from listening to the "roots".
