Just watched the movie Smiley face and was happy to see that star guitar and psychedelic reel were on the soundtrack! This got me thinking about soundtracks in general and which one was my favourite?

I’m not entirely sure myself but these are a few I could think of:

Trainspotting

Platoon

Dusk till Dawn

Killing Zoë

What soundtracks do you lot like?

My favorite soundtracks, in no particular order:

-Lost Highway (NIN's The Perfect Drug is just an amazing track)

-Natural Born Killers (Produced by Trent Reznor--has an amazing flow)

-Donnie Darko (Carries a brilliant tone)

-Being John Malkovich (Carter Burwell does it right)

-Trainspotting (Epic. That's about all that you need to say)

-American Beauty (Thomas Newman's best work, in my humble opinion)

-FIGHT CLUB (Dust Brothers, people!)

-The Graduate (Classic)

-Almost Famous (Classic Rock)

-Go (Lovely stuff on there, from Fatboy Slim's remix of Magic Carpet Ride to Massive Attack's Talisman)

-The Matrix (PROPELLERHEADS FTW!)

-Braveheart

I think that's about all I'll list for now. Great topic!

Oh, and Csar, I checked out that YouTube link and came across a Thom Yorke lyric. One of the old psychologists/researchers talks about the idea of going to "Cloud coo-coo land." In Like Spinning Plates, the chorus goes:

This just feels like spinning plates

I'm livin' in cloud coo-coo land

:D

I find that there are so many soundtracks that do well to compliment a movie or show, but don't have very much staying power in the CD player. There are some exceptions to the rule, and there are soundtracks that are solid on their own without being background noise for a film.

Trainspotting - it's an obvious choice for obvious reasons and there's nothing wrong with that. It's fantastic and such a good collection of tunes.

Human Traffic is all right too, but there's a couple of skip-overs. It's also a bit overwhelming in that it's 2 discs.

I quite like Vangelis' Blade Runner soundtrack. Fits the mood, fits the film.

Go - the soundtrack in my opinion helped make the film.

Nightmare Before Christmas - Danny Elfman FTW!

Pulp Fiction. Aside from being quirky and enjoyable, it manages to make Neil Diamond not seem so cheesy.

My top 2 favorite soundtracks however are:

Virgin Suicides by Air. It's solid, cohesive, dark and almost Pink Floydian in texture and mood - but lush and gorgeous the only way Air can make a lush and gorgeous album. It's also one of my favorite albums and neck n'neck with Talkie Walkie which is my favorite Air album.

Passion by Peter Gabriel. This was the accompanying soundtrack to the film The Last Temptation of Christ. I wasn't a fan of the film but I can't recommend this soundtrack enough. It's haunting, and even a bit mysterious as it has many elements of many global influences that Peter Gabriel loves to tinker with. This album can't be pegged. It employs 'organic' sounds and has ambient electronic textures that create these layers of musical emotion that run throughout.

@Whirls--you'd really take Talkie Walkie over Moon Safari? But, yes, The Virgin Suicides soundtrack is one that I missed in my list. It's pretty amazing.
