I have heard that gorillaz produced their latest album with just 4 or 5 apps on their ipads.
and when tom and ed started making brilliant music, they were defo not rich. when they made that remix for primal scream, jailbird (think it was), they were paid 3 grand and they bought that special gear they needed for exactly that remix. this is how their equipment got slowly but surely extended.

Amen to that.
Plus they appear to know their gear really, really well. The ins and outs. There's a spontaneity to their sounds but there's also something that also feels calculated - from Exit Planet Dust thru Further. Like the sounds might have been discovered by chance, but with the finished product those sounds are harnessed and controlled. I feel with the Chems it comes from knowing what they are working with, and knowing their gear really well in the same way a classically treained guitarist knows their guitar. Never once when I read a tech interview did I get the impression that they just collected equipment just for the sake of having it look good in their studio or on stage.

Let's say my budget is limited to 1000 €.
Same question for acid lines, I've read about the x0x0b0x, which is a cheap replica of the TR-303, is it good ? Has anyone ever tested it ?
Thanks in advance !

It seems like the future retro 777 is very good, and I guess it is what the chemical brothers use. (Am I wrong?)

If you want a 303 emulation, the Future Retro Revolution is what you want to get. The 777 is not a 303 emulation, it can do more, and is twice the price of a Revolution.
The x0xbox is a diy thing, so buying one is pretty hit or miss. From my experience, the Revolution sounded better, is much more fun to use, and I assume fixing a Revolution would be easier than a x0xbox

I already knew the Dave Smith Tempest but it's too expensive. Speaking about Dave Smith, I'm very interested in the mopho keyboard (analog synthesizer), worth it ?
The three others drum machines you mentioned seem interesting though, I have to check what they can do. Especially the JoMoX XBase09, which particularly caught my attention.
By the way, I know the x0xb0x is a DIY machine but I found some retailers that sell professionally manufactured ones. It's also cheaper than the FRR.
Thanks for your reponse !

should be 150 Euro or less, so you can spend money on other gear

In other news. I finally bought a good soundcard again. It had been one year and a half since I sold my FA 101. I got a Motu 828 mk1. It's great, the latency is close to unexistant (under 3ms). I'm getting a Korg MS20 controller in a few days, for under 200€, which is cheap considering that they go for 350€ or more on eBay these days, and since it's compatible with the iPad Korg iMS20 app, I guess more people will be looking for one.
