I dont know how many of you are familiar with annie macs show on radio 1. Put there is a feature called "annie mac in her anorak" she goes a bit geeky and tells us some interesting facts about 2 different tunes.
A few months ago she played a song by the beatles called "tomorrow never knows" from the revolver album, that used revolutionary production techniques someting to do with sampling different sounds cutting them from a tape and pasting them on to a new reel to create some fucked up trippy sounds.
Anyway, she then played Setting Sun, and then similarities are uncanny, especially in the intro's and indeed the vocal style. I suppose the only difference is that john lennon took acid and the chemicals just put it into their tunes.lol
Am i just stating the obvious... and you all knew already???
I just thought i'd tell some people that care as ive told all my friends and they don't give a shit.lol wondered wat everyones views are on the subject...

I love the Beatles and especially Revolver.. and Magical Mystery Tour, and Sgt. Pepper, and Abbey Road, and......
but I always found Tomorrow Never Knows was more similar to Let Forever Be, even in the lyrics.

I've always felt that Setting Sun was a giant nod to the Beatles. Why not, Tomorrow Never Knows is a fantastic song and the way it was looped together was way ahead of its time.
I once asked a good friend who's a Beatles fanatic about Tomorrow Never Knows and he said there's no samples of sounds other than the instruments from each band member. There are a few outtakes of the song with a different beat (I've heard them, and they are a bit bland in comparison to the final cut) slighty different vocal arrangement, etc. But what the Beatles decided to do was essentially go home, record seperately, then come back later and piece everything together. Each recording was cut up, sped up, slowed down, played foward and backward and every which way under the sun to get the desired, tweaked and distorted effects.
I may have this all wrong. If anyone else is an expert on this let us know, cuz that's what I've been believing all these years!

I've always felt the drums on Tomorrow Never Knows and Setting Sun were similar - I think there was even a whole legal thing that sprung up between the two songs and a musicologist was called in to prove that the Chems didn't steal the Beatles drum loop.
I also think the bass in Let Forever Be and Tax Man sound similar... not the same, but in the same vein...

Yah, Taxman, I think I've noticed that before, too.. maybe.
I thought I heard that the legal issue was between Tomorrow Never Knows and TPPR! But I could be way off there... in any case, there's definitely an Influence ;)

I can't see the simularity in between Setting Son and Tomorrow Never Knows :? What's that track on Exit Planet Dust, it sounds just like tomorrow never knows.
First time I heard tax man I thought of Let Forever Be. I like the way the bassline is done. Was slightly disapointed, cos I thought the chems had created it originally.

I used to be a big fan of The Beatles, I have all their albums.
I even have vinyls from the 60's up to Rubber Soul and then all CDs.
When I heard Setting Sun, the first thing that came to my mind was "This is Tomorrow Never Knows".
But I have to tell you the truth, I don't like Setting Sun, but I love Tomorrow Never Knows.
TNN blow up my mind and transports me to another world. (I sound like a mad guy :P)
