I've just sent it for the last emails.

THIS IS NOT THAT TRANCE VERSION!

Wish we had a definitive answer for this question. This version seems official to me.

can i bug you too

drlandin@sbcglobal.net

that trance version is actually written by a trance musician, David -Something. I heard it on a disc before. so some folk probably thought it was the chems, there were bootlegs of ebw series up to 6. all of them were accurate, excluding the 5. strangely the bootleg of 3/4 was right though... but yeah, I'd be ever so grateful to hear this if you don't mind

@ thiagobyo -

sneakerbeater's answer seems reasonable

Yeah, I think that sneakerbeater's answer seems very reasonable too. But we don't have an answer from official sources.

I see that everyone agrees that this extended version is not a fan-made thing...

you won't get an offical answer, Ed's not quite sure why there is a slightly different edit out there.

i got hold of a copy of what i thought was 'Electronic Battle Weapon 5' in summer 2001. it is actually a bootleg white label copy with a rubber stamp saying 'chemical bros - Africa'. this version is the 9.52 edit. i'm pretty sure one of the 50 test pressings issued to the djs was use to copy a dodgy batch of bootleg.

the genuine Red label Electronic Battle 5 is the 8.40 edit, and as i said previously. they used the same pressing for EBW 5 as they did with 'it began in afrika' 12".

i dont think the 9.52 version should have appered on brotherhood, cos it was not the version that was released. it would not be an authentic collection disc if you put different edits that were never released.

as for XPDR comments on EBW1

it is not the 'dig your own hole' album edit of 'it doesn't matter' that appears on brotherhood. it's the EBW mix, it 24 seconds longer.

sneakerbeater - Cool, agree on the track length differewnce, but it still has the Don't Stop The Rock beginning mixed into the end of it... As far as I know that wasn't in the original EBW1, was it? (I don't own it so can't tell, but I thought that was just the usual feature of the Chem's albums being intertwined in places)...

Thank you sneakerbeater!

Your latest explanation made it clearer to me.

I had never heard the vinyl mix of EBW1 before Brotherhood's release.

I too am a little surprised that it was edited with the album segue. I guess back in the day "it didn't matter"; they just wanted to get the 12" out there.

The questions is, why do one need a 9:52 min version of IBIA? I mean 8:40 are good enough imo. As long as there ain't no significant changes or sounds added I see no purpose in that.

But as for EBW 5, wasn't there another version of it? I guess Biff or Sneakerbeater did a mix once that contained it.
