it's been more than 12 hours no one deleted those spam threads (counting 13 right now) - we need more people with the ability to delete those threads.

Hahaha, "Paranormal Activity 2 The Musical" sounds pretty interesting.

There's about 17 on the front page right now. :-| We need Whirly ASAP.

Never apologise to these bastards, even if it is sarcastic.

stop new members from signing in, block the option to open new posts for a while, appoint new moderators but

do something to stop this bloody wave of spam!

it's a bit too much in these days.

i don't understand how this could happen - we got some new members spamming forum?
can't you just filter those that came since this begun and block them out?

some new members? it seems to be dozens every single day and many of them are still "sleepers". woe is us once they come to live, then the bit of spam we've had in the past few days will be nothing against what is to come.
love is all.

I can appreciate the aggravation, but I fail to see how constantly complaining about it is going to solve anything. The people in charge of this forum know what's up and the ball is in their court to fix it. At this point any complaining is little more than preaching to the choir.

They're too busy getting us the Further unmixed mp3s.

-------------------

Seriously, this is a fucking shame. This updated site has been around for what, a year? It was so fresh and exciting and everyone was giving mad props...and the mod/admin/designer DESERVED the praise. Now we can't even get them to create one or two simple updates to defeat the spam that is defacing the board. It genuinely is decreasing traffic among veterans and noobs alike.

Whirly's right, bitching doesn't help, but none of our suggestions seemed to have been implemented, either.

Let's start again with a stop-gap idea. Perhaps all new accounts should have to make a minimum of 3-5 posts in active threads before opening a new thread. This is an easy change that would definitely lessen the junk, and it is similar to what the moderator said they were already looking at. I know our admin truly did some good work in the beginning, but did he just dump us here or is an effort actually being made? This is a professional site, not some teenager's facebook page. Isn't there some professional pride at stake?
Gonna work it out...

but nothing has happened and is happening and I honestly doubt something is going to happen. we have more than 25,000 forum members of which 1,000s are spambots for sure, there's up to 20 or more new spam topics a day, what is going to happen once you're on holiday (or coach ;)) and mod might be sick or whatever? how worse shall it get?

I agree, it is a total shame for such a professional forum and I also think unless nothing at all seems to be done we should keep on complaining.

it's nighttime at whirly's place right now and not yet office time in the UK - 6 active spam topics are open right now. what a shame.
love is all.

Lately my weekends have taken me far and away from a computer for most of the day. As well as during regular work hours when I'm not allowed to log in as I'm on the clock (my son is home sick today, so time is on my side to babysit the forum). But yeah taking any kind of extended break from the forum is a concern, as I don't have the ability to moderate from my phone - it's my job to keep this place tidy, so if it gets out of hand and I'm away from a computer for a few hours at a time it looks bad on me and worse, on the band. The other mod is most diligent but it's physically impossible to be here 24/7

Some of you may remember the last time anything was done when the spam reached critical mass was when the moderator account was disabled resulting in spam spreading like small pox. Ed logged on and wondered wtf, and finally some changes were made. Along with the whole scenario being a shame it must've been downright embarrassing for him since it was his own forum. The band have other things to worry about than effin spam, seriously.

I just don't know what else to do, complaining doesn't seem to work. :(

Yeah, I'm sure you have better things to do as well. Your efforts have been appreciated. You have better things to do than babysit spam. For instance, babysitting us....

It sucks that you are taking on the extra work and everybody is unhappy anyway. Everyone knows you're on top of it and we do appreciate it.
Gonna work it out...

Thanks satur8! I don't mind the work - I enjoy being on the forum and don't mind keeping an eye on things and being of service. I love this band and love their fans. It's not having the ability to control or change things that are pissing everyone off is frustrating and at the end of the day reflects badly on me (my control-freak shortcomings are at play here, obviously! :P )

news of the week

but let's hope this wouldn't lead to such limitations for "real" forumies like it was with the last forum (no quotes etc)
