tho i agree 4 listens may not be enough to pass a verdict, comparing liking mylo's album a lot on first few listens and getting bored of it, and the chems blowing u apart completely and making u actually write that long ass review she did, and make u feel all that, is kinda different.

whatever.

jeanie - good writeup - just don't get the doors and we are the night connection, tho u'r bang on about they'r everything, not just the night. i think the lyrics are also somethin that imply the same (we are the night times, we are the bright eyes (times?) ).. they do imply we're everything - the good and the bad, n the good in the bad.

and yes - u'r right, all rights reversed - the fucking drums are amazing! i think of all the songs we have on 192kbps, that's the one that clearly shows on a low end system that it needs to be heard on fuckin cd quality, once the drums n bass kick in, they jar a wee bit in my car system, tho they'r fine at home on bigger speakers - that song has some bottom end.

i won't still compare burst generator to the test, since the test symbolically means a lot to me because of what it stands for, and ashcroft's singing, but yes, it is that epic league, i like to compare it more to the reel. a shorter 2007 version.

and i don't get why people keep comparing a modern midnight conversation to girlie disco songs from the 80's just because of the style - i agree it's justifiable a very small bit, but on a slightly deeper listen it's much bigger than anything from that era, or the vibe, and it's not just a girlie song which makes u wanna go to the disco - to me it's more like hold tight london - trippy, yes the cowbell, and the fucking mean dirty bassline, n the cheesy and yet not cheesy at all vocals. damn, only a chems can make a song like that today and pull it off.

Moment of truth, if I had to choose one track that's my least fav right now it's "kinda" das spiegel. It's weird to describe, I DO like the song - it's got a very happy, sunny, dancing jumping bunnys in a field feel to it - all pink n shiny n cheerful, but it's kinda gay - tho it has some wonderful funny sounds going on, the overall vibe of the song somehow still doesn't fit into the album a hundred percent for me. as a song i like it, it's funny, it's prolly that filler in the album, where u take a breather, the music don't grip u anymore, and u just smile, and catch up on u'r breath and scences, but from a pure intense album perspective, it sticks out in the experience, does anyone agree? tho i'll give it time, maybe i'll get used to it, and look forward to it, for the funny breather vibe, but right now it's certainly my least fav, if i had to choose one at gunpoint. don't jump on me, i do like the song, it's just too different from the general intense vibe on the album.

I'll say this again, I've overplayed it, but I still can't get enough of Saturate - I always love it when it comes on, I don't get the slightest urge to skip it since I've heard it a zillion times.

And yeah, I must have heard the album at least 60-70 times in the last 11 days. I just keep hearing it, and it keeps getting better if that's possible.

ok maybe mylo was a bad example but i stand by my point:

sometimes an album i dont get first time round tends to be one which im listening to years later wheras an album which is completely instant tends to get forgotten about 6 months later, even if i think its still good it sometimes lacks enough depth to hold my interest.

- whether this applies to this album or not i dont know - ask me in 6 months ;) (i dont think it will tbh its a damn fine album!)

i totally get what u mean - most of the good albums which stay with u are growers. except some gems which hit u right away, and keep gettin better with time. ;)

It's the same thing for me mipps...If a tune hits me instantly it's often a sign that I will loose interest after some time. IMO good albums are mixed with both kinds - some that needs time, and some that don't. After a while my favourites shifts, it's good, keeps an album fresh longer.

The chems albums almost always have a constant cycle of shifting of favourites.

Thats one of my favorite things about Chemical albums, I love most of it but there are a few songs I don't get. Eventually, I'll revisit it and suddenly get the song, which pretty much justifies the whole album experience for a bunch more listens.

Oh! Everyone, look at the Chem's myspace, and what genre they are under.

EMOTRONIC! :o

Haha, yes! I think this is actually a good label because their music makes us feel emotions! Awesome! :D

Emotronic you're kidding me Profunk you really think that's great? I mean, what bored soul pulled the word emotronic out of their rear end and decided that would make a great genre?? The more and more the Chems have evolved over the years and especially now more than ever, the less inclined I am to peg them into any genre. They have truly busted genres and transgressed musical boundaries. It is doing their music a great disservice by labelling them - it's a little bit like trying to plunk a square peg into a round hole - especially with this new album that covers an entire spectrum of style, sound emotion and good old fashion instinct to just get up and move your body.

Anyway - the MONSTER POST!!! by Jeanie was so great!! If any of you think she said "fuck" alot in that post you should have heard her on the phone. We were both sort of like drunk sailors, as if the only word that existed was "fuck".

One of these days when I have 3 hours to take my time and write an illustrious and vivid review, I'll get around to it but for now I take a bow to Jeanie as she has me beat in the MONSTER POST!!! department. :)

hahahaha!! Now that's impressive.

I am reminded of Thesouphead's review of Push The Button, and engrossing view of Left Right which he typed entirely with his left hand due to breaking his right hand earlier.

There are some hardcores on this board!!

For me, I deliberate over words, agonize over them (I blame all those freakin journalist courses I took in high school and college) I want so badly to string words together if only to do a teeny bit o' justice for what I'm hearing. stash just thinks I'm crazy, but he puts up with me. He's good like that...

Haha, I actually think the Emotronic thing is kinda funny because, well "EMOtronic" and the Chems don't really seem to go togethor.

However, WATN blew my mind on first listen. I got up and danced for about 10 minutes when the Salmon Dance and Burst Generator played. Then I plopped down onto my bed in exhaustion and got a serious natural high for the last half of the album. I ended up staring up at the ceiling for about 30 minutes.

It was amazing! Now I'm trying not to listen to it until the actual release, I'll probably weaken and listen a few more times.

I find myself vaguely nauseated to find any description containing the word 'emo' attached to music I like.

Does this mean that Tom & Ed will have to grow their bangs down over their eyes, begin wearing their sisters jeans and start shopping at Hot Topic?

I weep.

Haha, don't forget the liberal use of eye-liner, wristbands to cover up their slitted wrists, and the various types of shoes they wear!

Can't decide if WATN beats DYOH.... Probably won't be able to decide until the actual album is in my hands, artwork and all I think.

Errm, that's something I can't ever do. Make a list of fav Chemical Brothers albums. I can prolly do it with all other bands, except my top 3 or 4 - I've always had different favs at different times in my life, they keep shuffling and finally I decide each is a gem. Like Floyd, like Chems.

I think this album fuckin rocks, but I dont wanna call it the best Chems ever - Kammon - each album's made me feel this awesome when I'd been discovering it.

And fuck the label on their myspace. They'r no genre like whirly said. The grand dads of all genres. Fuck let's call em metal. Or we'll stick with synthetictypaalphabetapsychdelicfunk and lots more at different times.

And whirly - I made this thread because of none of us are getting those 3 hrs to ourselves and the album to write that monster article we all want to write, so we chip in whatever we feel whenever we do, even if it's just one song. Most of my posts are one shot in a few seconds too, no thinkin, just write whatever comes to u'r mind, let it flllooow. Thank god I never finally took those journalism classes, tho I was a part timer once.

Like I just woke up n on my way back from a piss, I think I'd check if anyone agrees with my Das Spiegel comments on the last page?

I'll always think of when I first heard this song, as the sun was coming up and the rosey golden light was coming in through my window... Getting up in the morning can be a drag, but it's also my alone time when the rest of the house is asleep. But anywho - I don't see the song as filler but I do see what you're saying so no worries, I'm not jumpin on your case. I definitely do agree Das Spiegel offers that breathing space that the Chems so mercifully grant us on their albums. For all the intensities the new album offers, that light airy break is much needed. But for my "light and airy" and "breathing space" descriptions, I don't mean to imply the song as simplistic in any way. It's actually quite heavy in terms of a layered, brocade of sound that weaves its melodies in and out of each other in a sort of sonic kaleidescope. I find it quite psychedelic of the same generation as all the rest on We Are The Night, but with a fun springy and joyful vibe. It's such an interesting contrast when it pulls you out of the near freak-out of Do It Again, and puts you in a happier place when you know you've reached that part of the trip where everything is going to be alllll riiiiiight. And everyone else is on the same wavelength, when you look around...

haha!

I quite agree, and happy u see my pt. I just felt this is the only song that doesn't carry the "intense" vibe of the rest of the album. Even Sammy the Salmon keeps u entertained and laughing and pretty gripped, this is the only song that's got a very light, springy, like u mentioned, vibe to it, it doesn't demand too much from our pea brains, and yet is psychedelic, with all those weird sounds happening continously. I like those sounds a lot, I like the song. It's just different from the rest, and very happy, shiny in a stupid way. Like u said the part of the trip u realise it was all a trip, n everything in the "real" world's just the same, n u start coming back, n feel a bit stupid for a while for having freaked out believing all that u saw was real. But then they've got some more very strong songs linedup later, so it's like u goin right back up, but this time in a sureshot good way. Damn, their albums are so acid - they write albums with the sid graph infront of them.

Ok t = x(takeoff) - let's blast off, ok t = x2(gripping heavy climb), let's climb, ok t= x3, gripping peak (let's peak), t=x4, nice plateau = let's give em some awesome shit with a lil bit of breathers here and there, ok t= x5, beautiful gorgeous slow sid comedown = let's bring em down with short peaks once in a while, and make em feel like fuckin slaves to the evil brothers forever!

Damn, they'r so acid, except u crave for em, as soon as u'r done with one trip. Blah, whatever, I'm gonna get late for work again!
