Hey Poots - sorry for my tardy reply in this thread. And no worries about not making it to see me and stash. As long as I am on this earth, there will always be a next time, my friend. :)

I had a strange weekend which involved some uncomfortable visits to the hospital, my dad going on dialysis, having my mom stay at our place the past few days and me and stash talking her down from the various peaks of stress she's been experiencing. Saturday was retail therapy day so I got to blow my birthday wad - I found some good bargains so that makes a girl happy.

I can't wait for the days to get a little longer so I can go for my walks after work - it's so strange the older I get, the more I look forward to the spring and summer months.

So I have had the great pleasure of being exposed to electronic music this past year and recently heard star guitar and became instantly hooked. I am incredibly fascinated by their sound and wanted to know what are some essentials to start off listening to?

Welcome Sinnedl173.

Star Guitar is a fabulous way to be introduced to electronic music. It also is perhaps one of the finest tunes in it's genre. If you haven't already, I suggest you buy the album which Star Guitar is featured on, 'Come With Us'. You wont find a duplicate sound that Star Guitar produces on said album, but you'll find a high quality of unique tracks that will blow your mind in all sorts of ways. And if you find yourself enjoying this album, I suggest you move on to 'Surrender'.

I also know album digesting isn't for everyone. So, if that is the case here, I would suggest these similar highly euphoric tracks from The Chemical Brothers:

Sunshine Underground

Surface to Air

The Private Psychedelic Reel

The Test

@whirls, I share the same sentiment with you on looking forward to spring and summer. But I counter with the fact that you don't have snow!! I am really tired of all the snow we are getting up here this winter. Mind you, you guys just had a week of rain which really sucks. Spring come faster!

It was pretty wet when we had all that rain, and the mountains got a ton of snow... but I can't complain cuz I got nothing on you hearty folk from the great white north!

Didn't the ground hog say there was going to be 6 more weeks of this shit?

Oh well. I suppose that will make spring and summer more sweet!

Man, I am so sick of the snow.

I'm sick of shoveling it. I'm sick of driving in it. I'm sick of still having to go to work in it when I should have early dismissal or the day off like the kids.

Double middle fingers at the sky!!!

EDIT: I just read the 'Watch the Skies' post. Maybe I'll be a little nicer to the sky...for now.

I'd watch the sky but it's raining, and my face would be a mess as my mascara would start running n'all.

Fantastic! We're expecting another foot of snow tomorrow night. That will make three feet of snow in four days.

Keep in mind I'm in Philadelphia. It's not like I live in the mountains or the great white north, so we're not typically prepared for this type of accumulation. Also, the Philly area is notoriously bad when it comes to snow removal from roadways, yet most businesses stay open anyway.

Just digging my front and back walkways out from 2 feet of snow was taxing enough. Then I had to dig out our two cars from street parking, and I'm probably not getting either of those spots back. Now we have another foot coming. Jeez.

For those of you not in heavy snowfall areas, keep these things in mind. Snow is not always light and fluffy; sometimes it is wet and heavy or frozen like ice. Wind is a bitch and can sometimes completely negate your work if you were fortunate enough to have the fluffy snow. Otherwise, the wind is just cold and annoying. Most of all, think about the logistics of carving out your car from snow; the snow is two feet high, you need to dig out a two to three foot perimeter around your car (plus whatever is actually packed on top of the car), and then you need to carry this snow several feet unless you plan on dumping it in the plowed street or sidewalk you just cleared. If you have a driveway you then have to shovel that, as well.

It's especially great around here. You have to bring your wet clothes inside, and before you even set them down on a towel, you watch out the window as the inconsiderate neighbors dump their snow on areas you've already cleared, because face it, there's a reason Philly has such a bad rep. The people here are asses.

Scott is grumpy and sore and referring to himself in the third person. Bad times indeed.

Someone send out some positive vibes with a good story or something.

(at least the website has been updated...)

satur8, that is.... sucky. Chicago hasn't seen snow accumulation like that since my parents were in their teens. Your back has to be fucked from all the shoveling. I know you guys are getting everything that just misses us in the windy city. I hope philly gets some warm weather soon. (Oh, wait, that might cause some flash flooding) Stay strong my brother.

Good energy for all you having to tolerate the weather. I won't talk about the weather here in SF--you'll send a mental punch toward my face.

I just DJed a local bar for my first time tonight, and it went really well. I was a little nervous at first, but I got in my groove and it was great, great practice. It's not the most happening place, but it also wasn't completely dead.

Much love for you peeps out there. Stay tuned and stay strong for Chemical influence. <3

Thanks for the good vibes, guys. It is STILL snowing and dropping freezing rain on us, so I haven't even started my second wave of shoveling. This time they've pretty much closed the city like they did with DC earlier in the week. At this point I'm just doing what I need to do...no more rants or bitch sessions.

Bosco - Thanks man. It's funny. Everyone was very slow moving at work this week. It's a level playing field when everyone has a sore back...

'Pooter - I'd never send negativity to someone that has it better than me, you lucky basta..uh...guy.

Awesome news on your first DJ gig. Some of my favorite memories were from the smaller bars I played in the beginning and the end when I was spinning. Did you get to play the type of stuff you wanted? Sometimes a local group can be a little fickle, but as you said, it is good experience and you learn the balance betwen pleasing the crowd and staying true to yourself. Were you using house equipment or were you able to bring your own gear / tech?

@pooter, awesome mate. I remember my first DJ gig in a public setting back last april. I was tag teaming with my friend and for the first few songs my hands were shaking out of control.

On my own end. I'm Going to the OLYMPICS!!!! Leaving for Vancouver on sunday. staying at my sisters right across the street from GM place where the opening ceremonies are. I'm There till Friday but trying to push it to Saturday so I can go see Deadmau5 for free. May also get a chance to get into some of the events since 1 of my friends already has tickets (Hockey I think) and another doing volunteer duties up at Whistler (just need to take the long bus ride up there). Also planning to meet as many 'interesting' internationalist as possible. maybe even get lucky with one is in the plans.

OLYMPICS!?!?!? Nice. That's an epic experience.

As far as the dj set went, I got to play what I want. It's a weird setup because there are only a few slits in the wall which allow you to see into the DJ booth... But I was still nervous. My hands were definitely doing a bit of shaking during the first track or so, and Ableton was responding sluggishly at first. I was freaking out because I was having trouble synching the tracks together, but I found a workaround, thankfully enough. GREAT SUCCESS!

Nice one Ryno!

Back in 2008 I was hoping to luckily come across a fortune to make it to Vancouver. Ever since wasting countless hours on this video game in my youth (for sega):

http://media.giantbo...mpics_large.jpg

(the soundtrack to the Biathlon is fuckin awesome)

and the movie Cool Runnings, I've always had a thing for the Winter olympics. Hope you have a good time!

P.S. Please take down Russia. Go Toews, Keith, and Seabrook!

@Satur8

That's insane weather my brother! Your snow job gives new meaning to 'dig your own hole'! The only thing that's knee deep around here was the rain that hit us around a week ago. The backyard was totally flooded, the trashcans were pretty much flotation devices, and water rose up to the second step on my front porch.

Damn!....where art thou Summer

@Ryno

I'm just getting into the Olympics right now. I'm currently watching the speedskate qualifying runs and the women's moguls. Have fun seeing mau5 you lucky son of a gun! Can't wait for a USA-Canada Hockey match-up!

@Dr. Awesome

BIG CONGRATS to you for holding it down on your first Dj Set bro! No drunk guy touching your gear or weird song request yet? You will soon!

Valentines Day..I'll pass!

Got my tax return this week AKA Hollywood Bowl money, ch-ching!

Enjoying the next two days off. Much love to you all of you guys and girls! Let forever be!

::laughs:: Nice. Nope, no strangers up in my business yet. And thanks.

Glad you're enjoying yourself and that not only do you have your taxes straightened out already, but you've got yourself some money to relax with. :)

Hope everyone's weekend was awesome.

@Bosco: Cool Runnings will always have a special place in my heart. :D

Okay, I'm pissed.

I drove back early and arranged my travel plans around DJing tonight. I get to the bar and was told last minute that I'm going to be switching off every half hour with this other DJ. Okay by me--I'm pretty tired. Whatever. Just going to have fun.

I go on first, forty minutes, tear it up, a few mistakes, sure, I'm kinda buzzed, but drop Misty Mountain Hop with some loops in perfection, awesome. The other DJ comes in, I go on break.

I go back in after near an hour to try to go back on again. I was obviously trying to do my thing again and the guy asks, "What do you want to hear?" As in, "you're not going to be touching this system again tonight. I'm the one in charge." Seriously? What do I want to hear? I want to hear something other than your fucking shitty dub-step bullshit, not to mention anything else other than you trying to shittily blend tracks together using Ableton.

Gotta be fucking kidding me--the guy is using this program as a glorified iTunes and he's going to tell me that he's taking over the bar for the night?

Sorry, just had to vent. I had a great forty minutes tonight, but I didn't ask for having to put up with douches. Not now, not ever. I'm okay with sharing a timeslot, but we all learned how to share in kindergarten.
