That's the problem with that film. It's so mofo fantastic, and so fuckin depressing, u can't see it often like trainspotting. beautiful camera work.

I thought Requiem for a Dream cinematography-wise was really great. There were some good parts in the film and some memorable scenes. But I loathed that movie, sorry. The story was as full of shit as it was overly pretentious and over the top for it to be belieavble. It tried too hard to the point it became unbelievable.

Highly overrated. Maybe I just didn't get it.

Great fucking movie's I've seen lately:

Hard Candy, a story with only 2 characters, a 32 year old photographer and the 14 year old girl he met on the internet. The whole thing takes place in his house, and there is a castration. Absolutely stunningly wonderful.

Thank You For Smoking, the funniest 'smart' movie I've seen in ages. Hilarious and evil.

Well , i had to dig up this thread.

Saw requiem for a dream yesterday.

Wow. Holy moly. That film totally blew me away. During the movie i was just shocked but as soon as it ended i started to cry , it left me feeling depressed and sad....but man , what a fantastic movie.

You know, the problem with that flick is that the director is really good, the actors are really good, but the plot is just too fucking far fetched. I mean, comeon, a little ass to ass girl on girl sex is NOT something to get really upset about. I mean, working in an office for a living is a fuckload worse than that. There are literally thousands of women who do that sorta thing for a living.

And then there's the problem with the guy and his arm. First problem with that is that no junkie, NO JUNKIE, would keep shooting into a vein that is that fucked up. Junkies are not that stupid. They have their own lore and protocols, that they pass to each other, and that includes using different veins. Aronofsky obviously has never met a real life junkie. And that shit about getting arrested out of a doctors office. ANYWHERE in this country, if a doctor refused him medical treatment, fuck, even if a doctor called the cops on the guy, that doctor would get his ass sued from here to fucking eternity. There's something called doctor patient privliege, they're not ALLOWED to call the cops, ever, under any circumstances, barring a direct threat to someone elses life. AND if the was imprisoned, denied treatment, and then lost his arm, attorney's would be lining up to sue not only the doctor, but the state where he was imprisoned.

SO, even if the the incredibly unlikely event that the junkie let his arm go that bad, then the astronomicly unlikely event that a doctor would risk being sued and losing his license to practice medicine by calling the cops, and THEN the cosmicly ludicrous event that the guy would be denied medical treatment by the prison, he wouls STILL have lawyers lining up for the fat 50% fee they'd get from suing all those people.

The movie is about as tragic as if they'd all somehow won the lottery and then been struck by lightening the following day.

Requim for a Dream is not depressing, it's laughable.

Bwahaha.

I agree that arms being cut off and having to go to mental hospital because of poppers is a bit over the top - nevertheless i loved that movie.

Hey Jim - i saw Hard Candy too. Fucking great movie. I saw it in the cinema in Amsterdam but in the blockbuster kinda cinema while this movie is more of an arthouse-cinema thingy. The audience was very shocked so they all started too laugh and shit. A bit annoying. But the movie is brilliant.

Warning! I just saw "The Departed" tonight, and its absolute shite!!! Terrible story line and filled with overpayed and underachieving acting. I want my money back :x . Martin Scorsese is soooo overrated. Unless you like tough guys thinking there the "shit," because they have a gun at there side 24/7, smoke ciggarettes at every oppertunity the camera is on them, and drop the F-bomb every 5 seconds, this movie is for you.

2 way thumbs down

That little girl from Hard Candy will definately go on to be big... being able to carry a film like that, with just 2 characters, that's something most actresses couldn't do.

and Bosco, that sucks about the Departed... actually, from your description, it kinda sounds like my sorta thing.

Well to tell you the truth, i might be a little harsh about the movie, but thats because i just dont understand this "tough man" mentality that Martin Scorsese likes to project in his films. So once I see it in his films it turns me off. However, I think I did a good job ignoring it in this movie, and the truth is "Godfellas" and "Casino" were his better films, this one just doesnt have direction like the others. :?

I thought Grindhouse was Tarantino?

I'll have to check out the trailer when I get home... another good one that's coming out is Pan's Labyrinth, looks like, well, Labyrinth, but for grownups.

I keep meaning to rent Brick, but I keep getting distracted.

Ah, Grindhouse is one of those multi-director thingies... I guess the trailer for RR's bit is here, I can't see it at work.

There's a sequel to "The Dark Crystal" in the works. It'll be directed by the guy that did Samurai Jack and the Clone Wars cartoons. Feckin' aye! :D
