Yeah, it was something of a mix, no pun intended, between a live DJ set and a mixtape. I had all of my tracks that I was going to drop all laid out beforehend, but all of the EQing/reverb/beat repeats are done live.

@pooter: hmm...don't get that. whats the difference between a mixtape and a live dj set? huuh? i mean theres a live performance and there are dj sets (=mixtapes are the result)

my "mixtapes" are all of course live. mixing.EQing.effects...

just call them mixtapes cause it sounds so oldskool. viva la cassette!

and a superb first track. it's for free on beatport to download in 320 kbps of course.

like the first half of your set. what i don't like is (but that's a matter of taste) when tracks with vocals just fading out (when the voice is getting quieter and quieter). if so, i think loops and freeze outs are good thing. (for example your segue between track 1 and 2.

love my traktor pro software for doin such things.

I can see that, definitely. I've noticed that you have to have a really good sense of the track to make a definite cutoff instead of just layering one track over another and gradually fading it out.

As far as mixtapes vs. "live," I suppose it's a matter of semantics. No matter.

i fad one track in to another when i mix classic techno tracks. most of the tracks are produced in the same way. 2min build up 2min booom 2min come down.

cut offs are definitely it when mixing this nurave - fidget house things in it together.

i also would like to spend my money to buy ableton btw.

Thanks for the compliments on my mix-tape brother_ging and inchemwetrust! I'm glad you liked it. A few days ago i made a piece of cover art, but i'm not quite sure how to call it. Any ideas?

@inchemwetrust: I'm from holland, utrecht. I found this music mostly on the web. (chemicalbeats.blogspot.com is a exceptionally nice one to discover new music)

cover art: http://img188.images...hoolmixcopy.jpg

dl link: http://soundcloud.co...tro-breakin-mix

off topic: i bought chemical reaction yesterday for only 4 euro! i'm not sure if it is the real one or a bootleg/alternative release because the cover art is slightly different from what i saw on discogs. anyways, it's a great big beat record!

I've given several listens to some of the more recent mixes. Lots of good stuff.

brother_ging - There is no questioning your technical skills. I definitely enjoyed some tracks to others, but that's just a matter of musical preference. Fans of these tracks will appreciate the mix and your tight persentation. Do you have any oher feature mixes still available on the forum?

MadPooter - I love your track selection and progression. Some of your seques were very clever. It's funny that Star Guitar gave you your only rough patch (both in and out); don't you know that track is so bad ass it repels all other beats?!? ;) I'd definitely enjoy a set like this on a night out and be surprised to hear you are a beginner.

Eis-T - As everyone has said, that's quite the old skool mix! My fiance and I are both fans of the style and we enjoyed it very much. I've also shared it with an appreciative friend at work. After several listens, I still get a smile with the Rockit / Metall Auf Metall blend, just one of many highlights.

I've been rockin' all three mixes as I dig out of the snow, so thanks!

@Pumisher--Finally got to your mix. ;-)

I dig remixes you chose of the tracks, and some of it flowed very well--the Fatboy into the Prodigy, for instance, had me grooving.

The beginning was a little rough between the Chems(slwx rmx) and the Royksopp, and then into the Fatboy. I would have tried to get Da Funk going sooner, but depending on the crowd I'd have to see.

Damn if that Trentemoller remix isn't amazing, though.

I'm in agreement with you about the latter half of the mix--I don't think it works very well.

What were you using to make the mix? I was hearing Da Funk slowed down quite a bit from a sped up tempo with a bit of artifacts in the sound and figured you were using a digital setup.

Well, "audience" is a word I'd use loosely. People at a bar who wouldn't know a good dj from a record someone shoves on who happened to be listening as I was djing is a more accurate description.

I'll give yours a listen. :)

Oh man--and YOU'RE the BC23 experience. I've listened to your Psychonoisia mix like dozens of times, at least. Sweet. Digging In Flagranti so far.

yeah, the psychonoisia - set is a baby of mine... (and tom stole "psycho" in it's psychotronik^^)

and everbody must play in those kind of bars (before we fill stadiums).

Pretty dark mix you've got here man. I dig about half the tracks. The others, not so much. You've done some good work, though.

Respect with some of the old school hip hop. KRS One.

Remind me--what type of gear are you using?

i use white widow and a strong haze...hahaha

seriously: traktor pro on my macpro + numark midi controller (in future i will switch to x1 control from native instruments).

you think it's dark? for me it's a happyspring mix full of sunshine...compared to my other ones, which are even more dark and deep.

buuuut now to your new mix, dr. awesome (nice name btw!!), which i was listening today on train.

i like the arrangement of the tracks. the segue between leftfield's phat planet and smack my bitch up is what i call: marvellous!! most of the others segues are working as well (ok your fade out techniques i still don't dig => more cutting would be nice, like i mentioned a few posts before)...

and the last track is also a favourite daft punk track of mine.

my 2 cents:

very awesome (;)) set (around 40 mins there is a mistake, but hey it was in a bar). most of the tracks will work for me (except from this ac/dc rmx; the original would be nice). will stay on my iphone.

rock on (& don't fade out that long if it's not stricktly techno)!

btw: this set could have been played on a massive rave! did the peep's dancing at the tables waving around with their arms?!?! lol

So, that ACDC was me sampling the original track into Cirez D live on Ableton. You didn't like?!?! ::sniffle:: That was my favorite part. :D I actually stole the idea from Crookers, because it was the only part of their set I liked. ;-)

It went on a little long during the transition because there was literally a woman acting as a groupie in my booth begging me for some MDMA. rotfl She was distracting.

The Ghostland Observatory track didn't mix in completely well to the Evil Nine... :-/ I'm still trying to figure out what works best.

You do like the dark stuff, don't you! I'm sure I'd love to roll at a rave where you were spinning.

And yes, I'll work on straight up intentional cuts into other tracks instead of long fades. It'll be easier when I get more confidence. It's coming along--this was only my third live set. :)
