It's like the 80's all over again. Kick the new Cold War into high gear! Bring on the made-for-tv mini series'! Bring on the political Sting-esque songs like "Will The (Russians/N.Koreans) Love Their Children Too" which will get played out on MTV complete with bleak nuclear winter imagery so we're all aware and afraid.

There are still a lot of things to be determined in this situation. "Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said that information still needs to collected and analyzed to determine whether North Korea truly conducted its first nuclear test"

I suppose we will find out when we find out. It is unnerving, but we've been expecting it from Mr. Jong-il haven't we? It was just a matter of when.

We just gotta keep on with life. It's good to be aware and to talk about it, but life's too short to be worrying. But it will be interesting to see how this all pans out.

Kim Jong-il is a nutty muthafukka no matter how you look at it.

be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Once again how can the US and UK tell North Korea (and Iraq) they can't have weapons when we have them? The only answer is for everyone to have nukes or nobody to have them.

Last week I watched a programme about Burma which is ruled by a military junta. Companies have been investing in the country's oil reserves, the money unsuprisingly goes directly to the government who use forced labour to build the pipelines. And who is the second biggest investor in Burma? Britain.

Quite simply, we're not run by a total nut case. Although we have nukes, I cannot forsee a situation where we'd use one. Even if North Korea nuked London, or New York, or Washington, I'd still expect us not to nuke Korea. I expect we'd invade, as in a full military invasion and wipe out North Korea the old fashioned way.

There is just something about nuking a country that seems wrong to the Western world - maybe came from seeing the effects of Nagasaki?

Easy solution which should work for everyone:

The West pays vast sums of monies for North Korea to surrender its nuclear weapons program. We build nuclear power energy plants, fund food and other programs geared to improving their economy and standard of life.

Everybody wins.

Of course, it will never happen. The West doesn't compromise, supposedly, with rogue state, for public relations reasons. Kim Jong-Il would lose too much face if he were to sacrifice the weapons, even though his people would benefit.

Second best solution:

Bribe Russia and China into looking the other way. Turn North Korea into a parking lot.

Guess which I think is more likely.

Well, if the N.Korean's want to take down America, its not their own soil they should aim for, its Iraq and the middleast. Take away the milk from the teet that feeds the baby.

but you've got to keep in mind that only the population of N-Korea would suffer from these embargoes and the "government" don't cares about their people. In a report yesterday i gained knowledge that more than hundret thousand of Koreans have died during the last winter period because of malnutrition.

U.S. and A. dont need to attack N.Korea, China woudnt tollerate build up of Forign milatry near their borders.

So America will do what they do best, Arm the neighboring countries ( japan + s korea) and increase instability in the region and leave them to fight it out amongst themselves.

"An unnamed North Korean official was quoted as saying today that his country could launch a nuclear missile, a day after Pyongyang said it tested a nuclear device. The world is lining up against Kim Jong Il, with even longtime ally China saying the test claim harmed relations."
