Since the Tilburg gig, every time I listen to this I get the exploding paintballs exploding on my retina again. Who needs acid with this drug around...

saturate is a far better mix of ebw 8 in my opinion. the synths at the end are more audible, its shorter, which in this case is better becasue it doesnt skirt around the issue of being amazing, it just goes right in there and rocks! the final build up and break is amazing. its sounds well good in a club

Spot on! It takes EBW8 almost 3 minutes to get into the meat of the number and the bass and drums seem to be fatter, fuller, but maybe I've just got a crap mp3 of EBW.

I like both versions of Saturate, but prefer the longer EBW8 one myself. However, I do feel the shorter version of Saturate probably fits better within WATN.

I find We Are The Night to be one of the most cohesive albums by the Chems, unlike CWU & PTB, where I often skip over tracks.

I agree I like the album version, but only in the album context - the ebw version is just too much multiple orgasms as a certain wise mexican would put it. I have the vinyl so the quality is insane compared to this - that's what I love about the Chems on vinyl - 1. they so fucking HARD and 2 i can crank my amp right upto peak without any distortion at all - and I can run a club with this amp - the cd versions of the same suck comparitively as far as pushing the volume really goes.

And most folks haven't heard Saturate/ ebw 8 on cd yet (just mp3) - except some too lucky people of course who've heard it in a club with the chems behind the decks actually dropping it. some people have no idea how fucking lucky they are. Access. What a powerful concept.

EBW 8 has a great beat and I like it a little better than EBW 9, but I still like it. I agree that EBW 9 does lack somewhere, but I do like the intro.

it's delicious but not single material.

people think it's annoying.

I played the first half of the album to my best friend while driving the other day. Saturate and Do It Again were the two tracks that he liked. He wasn't impressed with WATN or ARR. (He's one of the few people who has a taste in music I trust. He's not much into electronic stuff but has a varied taste that crosses many genres without being a hipster.)

Saturate and The Pills Won't Help You Now are probably my two faves on the album at the moment.

so we're studying Europe in my geography class atm. I was asked by my teacher if I could bring in any European music to play at the beginning of class (cause he knows i like European music). So the next day I brought in WATN, and my teacher chose to play Saturate. A few kids started laughing, some were mocking it by imitating a kick and high hat (ya know, that "oonz" sound people make). Most everyone was wondering what the fuck it was and how anyone could consider that "noise" music. It's quite annoying to be an American 14 year old, who loves electronic music. Not only do I have no one to listen to is with, but i get made fun of a shit load for liking it. Thats why I love this forum.

But Saturate, unfortunately, in the eyes of most teenagers, is considered "Creepy, Techno, Crap, Noise"

Aww, that's too bad, TJ.

Gawd, it's such a tough age, where everything is so particular and you constantly walk a fine line between what's cool and not cool... If they don't like that music then fair enough, but it pisses me off that you get made fun of for liking music that's not the norm and for thinking outside of he box. So fucking lame. Kids can be so cruel and that sucks. /mommy mode

Look at this way - you're unique and in the long run that kind of open mindedness will get you farther in your own happiness than being a fucking bully will.

Aye TJ, I know how you feel. The first album I bought was Discovery when I was 15 (I was a bit of a late bloomer musically because all I had to listen to was whats on the radio where pop is the best choice, if that says anything). I eventually started listening to music because the pop during that period included stuff like No Doubt's "Hella Good" which is definitely my favorite (I later learned it was produced by Nelee Hooper, who also did the superior version of 6 Underground, among other great things).

I digress, since then my musical taste has been looked down on by almost all of my peers. However, I like to think most of those that thought these things are idiots, but I try to be as nice about it as possible.

@whirly: This sort of thing isn't only a teen/school sort of thing. It exists in almost all facets of society in America it seems. Like, whenever I try to play music in the grill at work, almost everyone thinks I'm weird for it or makes obnoxious comments. Everyone is into T.I., Kanye, pop-rock, or country here exclusively pretty much. I even try to play alt-rock or portishead, but it is still too out there for most people -_-

Dear Mr Profunk,

I once lived through a period like yours and TJ's as well. I highly suggest Coachella ( Coachella.com ). You'll find a community that excepts your taste of music, and then some. And Hey look Portishead are HEADLINING! Expensive, but oh so worth it.

TJ - I echo whirly's comments. Be yourself at all times, always be true, and don't follow trends to try to fit with the crowd. Life's too short. Keep doing what you're doing, and you'll go far.

TJ - Most of my adult American friends and associates don't understand the appeal of electronic music, either. Fuck 'em. We find other stuff to talk about I share my musical interests elsewhere.

It takes a strong will to be yourself and chose your own path. As everyone has already stated, you're several steps ahead of your peers. Many of your classmates will grow into the closed minded entity I like to call "society". Others will find themselves filled with regret later in life because they blindly followed others and wasted their youth.

You may not know many people that like what you listen to right now, but they are out there. One day you will be the one to introduce somebody to electronic music and you will change their life forever. That's a promise. It comes with the title "DJ" and it will be worth the wait.

well said all. once you're in college, it's different, TJ. When I was around your age, I hardly told anyone, especially people at school, that I listened to the Chemical Brothers. It was for me a real personal thing, because middle/high school is so superficial that you really can't bring stuff like that out. But after being in college, your faith will be restored in the US and people's music taste. Rather than punishing you for not listening to the same shit, you'll find yourself in a community that for the most part appreciates bringing new music in. These are the types of people that make pilgrimages to festivals like coachella and go into class wearing shirts from bands like Daft Punk.

The best thing that happened to me in high school was discovering the chems. That was such a mind-fuck to that idea of conforming. I find my music selection laughable in middle school and actually being better when I was in 4th or 5th grade. When I started listening to the chems, I feel like I got a head start on being in tuned to my own interest and really through listening to them, I found myself more confident and just utterly carefree to social pressures, because I was enjoying music beyond a capacity that many others were able to. Through this stage of my life, I can confidently use the cliche that "the chemical brothers and their music changed my life." I really could not have found them at a better point, because it was really what I needed.

I have one friend who has become a chems fan after I showed him and a few others footage of Saturate at the Trafalgar show. Now the guy knows the whole fuckin Salmon Dance song! My suggestion would be in the mean time to look out for those people in school who are very open-minded to music and between them you can share great stuff like the chems, but as for the run of the mill tossers in your classes, it's always best to not care what they think and don't take their simpleminded opinion of music as anything more than someone trying to cover up their insecurities, which in this case is done by attacking music and making those drum noises. [/end rant]
