Have you people heard "the cedar room" by the doves. It's a chilled out track, sounds amazing.
The beggining sounds like The sunshine underground (my favourite track)
p.s. I'm a little drunk right now. This currently all makes sense, but could not when sobre.

Yeh, Ive heard that track!!!
its a fantastic song (unforunately they really havent brought out any other "stand-out" material... :( )
A band I highly recommended after a heavy nite lost in the k-hole is Sigur Ros!!! one of the best chill out acts going around at the moment - NOTE: that is my opinion.. people are free to disagree...
until next time, white_label

Great rainy day music, saw them live last year for ( ). They too have a visual back drop live, but unlike the chems this is slow and mellow. Great ideas in that band, also useing a cello bow to play the guitar is the greatest idea in years, what a nice sound. The bassist played the bass with a drum stick and the drummer used those big drum-sticks which give it that full sound. I like their first major album a lot, that second song (which I will not try to spell and is hard to read off the album cover) is great, that one uses the good ol cellow bow on the guitar to give the constant wailing sound

every one got into sigur ros when that song was in vanilla sky, people bought the 2 last albums and say they love them, i challenge any1 to listen to their early stuff and still like them, its hard listening and very different. svefn g-englar is a great song but too many prople go "mad" for it, when i saw them. agaentis byrium is a much better album than (). much more "sound" in it.

I've heard nothing but good things about Sigur Ros, and saw only a tiny bit of their set at a festival once, but shame on me, never got around to listening to them in full. I heard they had a Spiritualized like edge to them, but... If they do then likely they are right up my alley.
chem'd up and Biff and anyone else, which songs are recommended that would give me a broad spectrum of what they are like including older stuff?

get from the album "agaentis byrium"-
svefn g-englar
ny batteri
avalon
and from()-
track 1, 2, 5, 7 are all pretty good. all the tracks on () are untitled.
they dont really sound like spiritualized, well a little maybe. they dont "break into" songs a hard as mogwai or MBV but its just a constant noise, droning, whining. at one point live he sings into his guitar, its a truly amazing experience to see them live, i literally was crying when i saw them and i had a constant shiver down my spine.
actually just listening to () now and it is really just a lot less "busy" that the previous album. i still think agaentis byrium is better though.
go asllep listening to () and wake up listemin to agaentis byrium, it is truly an amazing experience. they are a very emotionly owerful band.
well theres my 2 cents!

It's funny how vanilla sky took so many good songs for an average movie, radiohead, the chems, REM, and sigur ros. Sadly they're all good tracks from them.
For sigur ros I like the suggestions so far. If i were to just say my favorites it would be:
Svefn g englar (that's prob my fav)
Staralfur (reminds me a bit of where do i begin)
Those two were from Agaetis Byrjun, the first major label album (dark blue).
Also Track 4 and Track 8 from their ( ) album. They are given nicknames but the album has no writting on it. Track 8 they did as a final song and it was amazing. The rest the show was cal but this one gets more and more intense while it starts out sounding like the other songs. As for their first independent album, that didn't seem to have much essential stuff, far different from their major stuff
