Has anyone heard of the novel World War Z?

http://en.wikipedia....iki/World_war_z

I've started reading it with much enjoyment and fascination. However, with the media focus on H1N1 and the possibilities of what can happen, it is a somewhat scary (if not timely) read.

Sure, zombies are fictional, but humankind is not exaclty known for its merits when it comes to maintaining the perceived status quo in a time of crisis.

@graysquire--nice pics man! Thanks for that. Enjoyed reliving the Underworld show for a moment. :D

God, it's great to go out and dance to good electronic music. I'm looking forward to this weekend--the "LovEvolution Parade" is going to be happening in San Francisco. Basically, tens of thousands of people are going to be gathering in the Civic Center plaza to dance while intoxicated to fifty different DJs spinning on floats. I'll be sure to take pictures. :)

In other news, I successfully finished the LSAT last weekend (::crowd cheers::) and I'm waiting for the results, which should come on Oct. 19th. I feel like I did great, and I studied a lot, so hopefully it all paid off and I'll get back scores which will put me in a good law school. (yay)

I also saw the band !!! last weekend. They're great--they had some really awesome energy going for them, and I danced my ass off. Oh, I also took a few mushrooms before the show, too. WOOOOOO! It was a great night.

satur8 - World War Z is one of my hubby's favorite books. Because he's strangely obsessed with zombies. :P He's been trying to get me to read it for ages, but he loaned it to god-knows-who several months ago during the hazy days, and he never did get it back. I'd like to read it, I think. He says although it's premise is driven by fictional zombies, the scenarios are actually quite plausible in an outbreak sense. He highly recommends that book as well as Zombie Survival Guide (both written by Max Brooks).

Skey - from China, eh? What's the music scene like where you live? It's cool you post here... 1 Chinese Chemical Brothers fan, 999,999,999 to go! ;)

Poots - yes there needs to be pictures of you in various intoxicated states, hehe.

@whirly - Well... What to say...

In fact, In my town, the music scene is rather simple(because my town is very small :()...Chinese concerts are very few... :(

whirly - It is an excellent read so far. I should note that although I am a sci-fi guy, I have no preference or obsession with zombies (or the undead in general). However, as you have mentioned, the logistics for a global outbreak (of any type) are handled very nicely. I intend to read World War Z's predecessor, The Zombie Survival Guide, as soon as I'm done. Based on the writing style of the two, I thought it might be best to read them out of order.

skey - Your English is fantastic and we'd love to hear more about being a fan in your area. Do your friends even know who the Chemical Brothers are? There are fans here from Europe, Australia, USA, and all over, but the Chemical Brothers are not a well known name even in many of the Western cultures. For instance, I live on the east coast of North America and NONE of my friends enjoy the Chemical Brothers; most have never heard of them. Then again, most Americans are not known for having a great taste in music...

jittem - Make sure you post a review of the show, dude. Have a blast.

@satur8 - Oh thanx! I'm also glad to introduce to you more about our eara. :D

Well, I agree with you. Most of Chinese just listen to Chinese songs. At first NONE of my friends know The Chemical Brothers, either, but because of me, they all know the band now! 8)

You bring some new energy in here Skey! Kind of like some good ol' Febreze sprayed in this forum.

Congrats to you Poots on the LSAT.

Just got out of a power shower! I waited for this night! Gonna do some dancing and some drinking with a few friends I haven't seen in 5 years for a bit of a reunion. The outside air is perfect for tonight.

Goodnight to all you Chemical Brothers and Sisters.

ok a review of erol.

the day started with my friends and i arriving in Sydney around lunchtime. Whilst we waited for my bro to get ready we decided to walk across the oval and check out PARKLIFE (electronic music festival) from across the fences. We got to hear Mstrkrft, Crystal Castles and Erol. The sneakpeak of erol just had my friends and i drooling for more.

Erol was playing the PARKLIFE afterparty at a club called the Oxford Art Factory (i highly recommend it to anyone who visits sydney). Around midnight was when the club started to fill up and the opening Dj's performed. Quite different to DJ's i've seen in the past. Very disco/electro. They busted out old school classics such as Push It.

1am Erol started his set. The dancefloor instantly squished up with new comers. His opening track was very chemical brotherish which made me know i was exactly where i wanted to be (and no thats not the MDMA talking :P) Obviously alot of his set was discoish, since his tour was the Disco 3000 tour lol. However the songs that really captivated were the ones with jungle styled beats (similar to it began in afrika) and the throbbing bass lines to accompany it.

It was quite a nice feeling to go to a gig and not know about 95% of the tunes, yet still getting into it as if you've known the song for years. Of the about 6 hours of DJ sets i have of erol on my computer, he probably played about 3 songs. He must have a massive music catalogue.

Around 3:30am he finished with an epic finale of bleeps and synths. However the crowd urged him on and he did an encore. Not long after this though i was completely worn out from 5 hours of dancing and decided to wait outside 'till all my friends were ready to go home. As soon as i stepped out of the club i saw about 30 police officers surrounding Oxford Street and police tap everywhere. I was quickly ushered away from the taped area and up the street. Turns out a female police officer was crossing the road to stop a fight and ended up getting hit by a car. She died.

Sorry to end it on a sad note. Except for the tragedy, i had a very fun, intoicated, dance filled night and highly recommend everyone to grab their dance shoes and see erol.

PEACE

- Jittem

@inchemwetrust: Thanks man! Hope work isn't too crazy this week.

@Jittem: Sounds like a great Erol party!! Awesome. I really loved seeing him when he DJed before the Chems @ Olympia. :D Really sad about the officer getting killed, though. :-(

I had a fairly good time at the LovEvolution parade here in SF. I saw Deadmau5 perform for about a half hour in front of City Hall and it was hilarious to see his disco ball mouse head pop up behind the decks and start bobbing along to his opener track.

However, the event itself was pretty lame. There were too many people in a space with too much going on. There were floats surrounding the Civic Center square here in SF, about twelve in total, and every half hour or so a different DJ came on. No one wanted to focus on anything and just dance--there was too much movement in the crowds and no one could just chill. And on the opposite, even, there were a good number of absolutely rude fucks.

I was smashed up against the crowd with my arms around my girlfriend-for-lack-of-a-better-word Alexis, and some guy came up behind me and said "excuse me." I gave him a look and nodded my head to my front as if to say, "well, do you see this huge, impenetrable mass of people in front of me?" In the line of people behind him was a girl who had the audacity to tell me, "you know, when someone says excuse me you should move."

I lost it. I screamed in her face that if I had anywhere to move, I would move. Kind of funny coming from a guy with huge, ridiculous glasses, orange hair and a gold headband. ::laughs::

I did enjoy dressing up and dancing when I was able to, though. It's good to completely get out of character and wave your hands in the air for a bit. Went out to drinks with friends at a great cocktail bar afterward, and pretty much had to call it a night because my friends had been rolling all day and they were exhausted. (none for me until the Chems or someone else significant comes back around)

And now a crazy week of work! At least I got laid a lot this weekend... ;-)

@MadPooter - was deadmau5 good? Because i'm seeing him in november. lol i thought you were planning to get some fungi to the float experience :P. In my opinion, crowds at festivals are terrible. More often then not, the crowd is there to be seen, not to enjoy the music. But im glad you stood your ground :D

Deadmau5 is pretty good.

His lively stuff gets a crowd going and he has some great energy that he brings. Unfortunately, there are some toned-down house tracks he has helped produce, e.g. "I Remember," and other vocal house tracks he has created which are, in my humble opinion, crap. Tracks like that are about as meaningful as corporate sentiment, which is to say that it would be fitting in the lobby of Bank of America.

Hopefully when you see him in November he will stick to the high-energy and avoid the annoying-attempt at sincere emotion.

Sad to hear about the lady officer.

I hate getting involved in concert crowd confrontations (say that 3 times fast!). No offense to the ladies out there, but women seem to be the worst when it comes to this. "Your too tall, can you move?", "Why are you cutting me off?", "EXCUSE MEEEEEE", "Can you move over so my friends can stand here?". " (Put name of boyfriend here), can you tell this asshole to move".

Skey, which part didn't you understand? you don't have iTunes?
