Fuck me. Now I'm listening to EBW 9 on headphones for the 2nd time.... oh lordie lordie lordie!!! That buzzing intro, like a caliope spinning out of control at the beginning is like being blasted off into a dizzying twisted journey into the unknown. That high pitched acid is... fuck-n-a, keep it coming!! Those stuttering sirens are so wicked, they have a very old school familiar feel to them, like it takes me back to those raving days of yesterday. The Chems still have it going on... That solid tribal beat keeps it all grounded, such a stomper! I think this may be my favorite of the Electronic Battle Weapons!! This makes me wish more than ever I were gonna be at Turnmills. This song is begging for a sweaty dark club with everyone going completely bonkers. I would honestly have to bring a change of undergarments if I heard this in a club at bone shattering volumes (probably a good thing I'm missing out on Turnmills I guess, spare myself the embarrassment and funny looks from innocent bystanders X-D )

The bleeps and high pitched noise are the best and remember there is alot of loss of that bass because the poor quallity.

Cant wait for a complete/good quality of this battle weapon.

I liking this more than ebw8 at the moment.

Stop blushing mX, your English is good!!

I haven't listened to Pete Tong's radio show yet... but out of curiosity, did he really read out iggy's "the Chemical Brothers forum is moist" text on the air? If so, can someone rip that please and put it up somewhere? It would be such a perfect thing to put on the beginning of a mix cd!

I've been listening to these two tracks so much in the last couple of days, i can't get Pete Tong's voice out of my head ( "first play of EBW 8 and 9 from the kettle..brothers - sorry chemical brothers" X-D )

Anyway

EBW 8 - there is something so cool and emotional about this track that it almost doesnt feel like its an EBW, but rather one of the last or closing tracks on the album. There is definetly a great burst of energy once the drums kick in - just wish it wasnt so 'broken up' in some parts. This is one of those tracks that you love more and more each time you hear it - definitely a grower. Although i do have a slight reservations whether this track would work as a part of a live performance.

EBW 9 - this is a straight club tune from the same family as 'Believe' and it works great as such. As somebody said previously, the background beat does sound a bit weird - and it is very familiar, i just cant think of where i heard it before.

I do have one big issue with this song - there is no big moment - "explosion", "breakdown", "uplifting" - the best part of the track are those ten seconds (at 2:50) when the cow bell sounds start repeating fast and the deep synth comes on and then the high pitched synth is layed on top of it - it is such a great intro to what you expected would be a huge release and then - nothing; they just cut it off and go back to the soft background beat. If they expanded this part more, it would be an excellent live tune.

All in all, i prefer the EBW 8 for its simple beauty.

EBW 8 < EBW 9

I like 9 more because imo it's an EBW, number 8 doesn't give me that EBW feeling. 8 is a track which has to grow and is growing with every listen. I was going, and still am, beserk when I hear 9.

EBW 8: I still think the general beats sound really strange with the euphoric drum break, but I like weird noises and I really like that strange "pewew" before the last drumbreak (somewhere around 4.20 into the song)

EBW 9: this is a stomper of a EBW. It's HUGE. The intro is great, reminds my of something from the Confront your Demons set. I think the "tetetetetete" sirens mix very well with the hard bass lines. Can't wait to hear this one in Turnmills!!

not as cool as the parents who brought their 5 or 6 year old son to a chemicals gig.

Have you seen the video Jeanie posted in a different topic where they were playing EBW 8 either live or in a DJ set? Its absolutely amazing. It gets to the euphoric part and this super bright light turns on above them 8O And because it is so segmented it could easily be mixed into many of their other songs live.

Also, in 9, one of my favourites is that cow bell that keeps coming in and on the build up it suddenly speeds up quickly and dissipates. Another to consider is that we haven't even got to the "explosion" in that song yet :D

i must admit im beging to sway to number nine as my favorite.

after a lot of plays of number 8 it just sounds like just another chems track to me when the drums kick in. i just get the feeling i have heard that drum kit a few to many times before (sorry!). i still love it, kinda takes me to the uplifing vibe of sabres of paradise - smokebelch II. but its impact on me has lessened

now number 9 on the other hand sounds nothing like i heard them do before. its got that big dark room sound. that sound of beautiful monotonous house that when your on a pill you just disolve into the simplistic grooves. when i hear it i can imangine so many dj's playing it in foggy dry iced atmosphers, and strobe lights kicking off. ah it just takes me back to being lost in music, on one in a dark dingey club, love it
I'm a fuckin doughnut
