Pop trance is what finally saturated the electronic music scene in California, I think. When I was working in the record store, people that were "getting into" electronic music would gravitate toward the poppier trance - I guess it was a safe option if you didn't want your fearful ears to take any risks. There was just so much of it, you couldn't get away from it - it was in commercials, as background filler for tv shows (where there was a cheesy party scene) background filler on radio stations when they were giving the traffic report, blaring out of cars at stoplights. It got to be a little much.
I don't have anything against Paul Van Dyke, he was pop trance before pop trance surfaced and when I was really diving back into electronic music I enjoyed some of it. The problem is that pop trance is stagnant and doesn't take any risks, and it all starts to sound exactly alike after a short while.
My vote for worst pop trance is DJ Sammy. ugh.

I think 'You're a superstar' is one of the worst dance songs ever released. Down there with DJ Otzi's 'Hey baby'.
I hate DJ Sammy too. They played 'Heaven' everywhere here a few months back, everybody raved about it, even my dad liked it (I think that's cause he's a Bryan Adams fan).
I have to admit that I bought 'Blue da ba de' by Eiffel 65 :-// . It made me laugh how they said that Euro-pop was going to be massive but then it disappeared into thin air!
