I was wondering how the chemical brothers manipulate there samples, what software programs do they use as i don't want to waste my money buying something that won't do what i want it to do

I'm pretty sure this info is on http://www.planet-dust.net/ but I don't know which portion of the site...

But here's another site that has a breakdown:

http://www.fortuneci...n/370/dust.html

Just scroll down a bit and find the "equipment" link.

The above is old info. I think the old astralwerks page had some info too, but that was a while ago. No doubt they've upgraded a few times between then and now.

Other sources I've seen that had the Chems list what they work with has been spread out over the year - you may want to check out (if they are available online) are various interviews in DJ magazines, such as Jockey Slut, DJ Times, etc. and whatnot.

I think as a whole though, it's not just their equipment that gives them their magic, it's what they do with what they've got. They seem like they know their equipment really well - and that must've taken lots of time and patience and starting out small then working their way big. I think knowing your equipment/instruments is key to making the equipment work for you and not the other way around. Oh, to have the gear... the gear... that would be nice... But that's just how I see it.

I agree.

But anyhow, software-wise, the Chems mostly use Logic and Recycle, I'm pretty sure. And they use high-end Macs.

Yes, its good for producing music. But no way near as good/stable as OS X Panther for that. With the built-in support and audio capabilities of OS X, it can't be beat.

Mac OS X 10.3.x a.k.a. Panther.

Linux is known for great reliability -- but with the sacrifice of great productivity.

I doubt they use Recycle. I know they got an andromeda A6 recently. This is just a guess but I think they used it on some CWU tracks and utter rock and the duke.

And they've said they use ReCycle, I'm quite sure...

Any one whose got a hardware sampler will probably use ReCycle, it's so much easier chopping samples up rather than messing around with the front panel of a sampler.

As an aside point, I've read in loads of equipment lists that the Chems have a TB-303. I doubt this, I've never heard one in a chems track, and they only have one sound! Also, why buy ReBirth if you've got the hardware??
