While checking release dates at Tower Records, i stumbled across A Tribute To The Chemical Brothers - VA http://www.towerreco...=2704477&cc=USD

Anyone ever heard this album or own it? How are the mixes and is it worth $11 :-P?

This litterally was THE WOREST album I ever previewed. It's utterly horrible, DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS.

I got a promo of that (I didn't buy it) and it was so... words cannot describe. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but there it sits to this day, on my shelf. A powerful reminder of what happens when good music goes into the wrong hands. Do not pay money for it. Worse comes to worse and you have to hear it, I'll rip you a copy.

She worked at a record store.
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

Correct, thanks GLAKO - yes I did work at a record store for a really long time. I find out this week if I get my old position in my old store back. Wish me luck, it sure beats being unemployed!!

Yeah, it is really cool working in a record store! I highly recommend it to anyone. The pay stinks but it's a blast, there's always a great mix of people who are into different things and it's a good way to get all kinds of opinions on different kind of music you might not have heard otherwise. I had a kick ass position where I had my own office and I could be creative doing displays and stuff all day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

anType, I don't have a scanned pic of the promo, since I don't have a scanner, but maybe I could have my husband scan it at work tomorrow and I'll get back to you?

Here's some info:

on the cover:

A Tribute to The Chemical Brothers: Covered in Chemicals

-A cd set of Block Smashing Beats

-A 12 track ode to the kings of the big beat

copyright- 2002 HYPNOTIC

CLP 1235-2

^That's the cat # listed but the full number displayed with the bar code on my copy has a hole cut out from it, which is typical of all promos. Hope it helps!

thanks for the info guys, i previewed the tracks and came to the conclusion that it sounded like all they did was take weak samples from original tracks and add various noises, but some of the beats match pretty well, but i dont plan on buying it thanks. BTW, towerrecords.com has TGP on release for 9/8/03 (today) but they still have it on pre-order. I was actually going to buy that today and Live At The Social, but not until they update the site http://www.towerreco...px?pfid=2879346

Captain Trips - I kind of doubt that Tower Records will update that site, I'll explain why... (I'm assuming you're from the U.S.) Basically most imported UK items sold thru Tower, including the website, are a special order deal. Unfortunately Tower can't claim or make guarantees that they have something especially if it's an import, unless they cast that item as a special order, usually at a customer's request. The reason being is because most of the time, these special order items simply aren't on hand. The record label/distrobutor recieves the request and the item(s) are shipped accordingly either to someone's house or an actual store. The only way to semi-assure you'll get a copy of Live @ The Social and the UK Golden Path single is to cast your order, then wait and see. It usually takes anywhere between 2 and 6 weeks for a delivery (sometimes longer, sometimes less - but usually within the time frame) And seeing as Live @ the Social and TGP are not out of print or ridiculously obscure, there really shouldn't be any trouble getting it into your hot little hands. And it doesn't cost anything up front to pre-order. If that doesn't work, try to pre-order it in person at a store. That way you can call and check on the status (but not too often, that gets annoying ;) ) and they call you when the items come in. If you change your mind, you have no obligations and it's a lot easier to deal with it this way than it is to try and cancel and order online.

Whew, that was a mouthful!

I thought The Social Mix was OoP? and ussually (the experiences I have had) you do have to pay something up front to preorder an item. Ussually $5-10 depending on the item.

For the TGP page, it says it is a Special Order and i figured it would take a while, but Live @tS is not a special order. CdNow has it on special order, but didnt used to, and TRs has few in stock i believe. Ive had bad experience pre-ordering in stores. I.E. at Sam Goody (dont ask me why i was there, i was bored :P) back in 2000, i was skimming and noticed "Pre-Order NEW Prodigy CD TODAY!". Had no idea that the cd was going to be released then, even though being a die-hard prodigy fan, and still am and anxiously waiting for them do to anything lol. But i pre-odered it anyways, and the dude told me it was the Electronic band, Prodigy. Come to find out, months later, that it was "Prodigy of Mobb Deep - HNIC". Dumb bastards.

but yes i am in the US, and will only pre-order online and probably wont, i can wait :D

I haven't seen Live @ the Social on a US store shelf, I was unaware of it being out of print. I didn't see anything on the Tower or Amazon sites indicating it was oop anyway (both sites listed them it as special orders though) and usually if things are no longer in print it will say.

That stinks what happened to you at Sam Goody. What a dope! I also think it's ridiculous that you had to pay up front for a special order. It takes so little time and effort for a big chain store like Tower or Warehouse or Sam Goody to place a special order. Not only that, but even if the customer never came to pick up the special order, it would either be sent back to the label or shelved in the store. But maybe that's the customer perk to ordering things from big coporate conglomerates like Tower??

That costs money. That's why stores charge you.
