Tom Rowlands – ‘Through Me’ / ‘Nothing But Pleasure’ [PH 24]
Phantasy is proud to release a one-off double A side 12” from The Chemical Brothers’ Tom Rowlands.
‘Through Me’ is an all-cylinders, propulsive elasticated house track while ‘Nothing But Pleasure’ is eight-plus minutes of unstoppable Metallic KO disco. Both tracks reiterate the point that Tom is unarguably one of the greatest producers of club music around.
The 12” vinyl will be in the shops within the next couple of weeks; the download will follow a few weeks afterwards.
Tom Rowlands: “These are tracks that were made to DJ with. I gave them to Erol to road test; he loved them so it seemed a perfect fit for Phantasy – I love what he does with the label. The Chemical Brothers haven’t any plans to release new music this year – we’re soon to start work on a new record – so this 12” seemed an exciting way to get music into clubs now.”
Erol Alkan: “Every time I played the tracks out people were desperate to find out what they were. Both have been highlights in my Dj sets for the last few months.”

thing is that the team behind this forum know this error but are to lazy fix it (like they delete posts of spambots, but don't the delete spambot too so they can have post-counters like 12 oder 15...)

I do hope you haven't directed that at me because my lack of administrative ability is not due to laziness. I can delete posts and edit up to a point, but have never had the ability to delete a member. Never have, most likely never will.

No, it wasn't directed your way - it was directed to the 'team' (admins etc) behind this forum, more precisely to the people at 3ev.

Ah, OK - I see what you mean and fair point, for sure. I could be a bit more robust in terms of posting more in the threads. Or being around right when spam pops up (which happens when I am either sleeping or consumed at work). I wish I had more of a hand in terms of fixing silly forum glitch things that have fallen to the wayside as time goes on...

But anyway. Back on topic. :)

Who all is planning on buying the vinyl?

Because I still don't have a proper turntable (sacrilege, I know!), I need to hold off for a proper digital release. I hope it is sooner rather than later!

My turntable is pretty crap but it can rip an mp3, so I pre-ordered the Vinyl, more in order to support my favorite artists, but also because it is something I just have to add to my collection.

Like always, missed out on the entire event/fallout...

First impressions on Through Me -
what a weird track. Really on the fringes of what we've heard from The Chems or Tom himself in the past. Very tight (though that might be due to the Radio Edit structure), edgy, frisky, upfront with samples, reminds me a whole lot of the direction Orbital took with The Altogether. In fact, it's like Tom got a time machine, went back in time, and remixed some unreleased Orbital song from the Altogether era. Light, stripped down and straight forward, and surprisingly lacking in some of the trademark wild off the wall FX-like sounds typical in The Chem's music (maybe that's Ed's job). Not all that thrilled by it. Though it might grow on me.

Second/third listens -
This track is almost like Electronic Battle Weapon 9 part 2! Seriously. The bassline is an octave or two higher, but eerily similar, and the percussion is highly derived from EBW9, right down to the cowbells. Continuning the last train of thought, it's like The Altogether era Orbital travelled forward in time and remixed EBW9 while they were working on it. There's similarities, and I'm all for conspiracies, but they're really not close enough to be complementary tracks (like EBW3 = Under The Influence). In some way, they're sister tracks. Where Through Me is the dressed-up pretty bitch sister and EBW9's the sister who's smoking and putting out like crazy. And for the record, EBW9 > Through Me (but don't take that as my preference in women ;) ). That breakdown is undeniably Chemical. The track feels a lot like the old neglected b-sides like Buzz Tracks and The Rock Drill. Still don't like this track much. I would only get this EP on the strength of Nothing But Pleasure.

Speaking of conspiracy theories:
A 2-track solo EP from Tom came out in 1993. This EP resurfaces on the forum within five months of... a new 2-track solo EP from Tom. Which is coming out in 2013. Exactly 20 years later... :geek:

Cool to hear they're starting work on a new album and always good to get new tunes, whatever they are.

Loving it.

Said on facebooke earlier that the structure and overall sound of the track was new and fresh, while the sounds seemed to be like old Chemical Brother's sounds and noise...like a nod to the older stuff. For me...it ties in the current house music I like to hear in a club with the sound of Exit Plant Dust.

I want more.

Sweet. This is great.
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.
