Hey Consumer!

I've listened to 2 tracks of you 'Cog' and 'The Destroyer'. These are excellent tunes, you've got a very good feeling of handling drums, synths and layers. I love how you created the beats in these ones especially cog because there were some breaksdowns in it (the times where the toms get down), how did you cope with it, i mean, are you drummer or somethin'? When i try to do so with fruity, it sounds rubbish. And that leads me to another question, what type of music programm you're using and where do you get your (one-shot) samples (snares, base drums etc.) and instruments from?

Reaction: Just checked out Verdure, it's cool in a subtle way. It's pretty deep and really housey, and filled with nice synths (as we've come to expect!!). It's also fairly minimal, but in a great way. It centres on a few different sounds, and I think that helps it keep real. I like it, I wouldn't say as much as some of your other stuff, but I guess that's musical evolution!!

Still waiting for your LP man!! :D

Consumer: I dug The Destroyer enough, but by halfway through, I didn't want to listen anymore. It needs to have a "payoff," so to speak; start off with the catchiest piece you've got, and then let it build off that and trust something better will come to you by the end. Don't be afraid to make a two-minute song, if that's what it takes. Better a brilliant two minutes than a mediocre-good five minutes.

trippinvato: Cheers for the listen and feedback! It's funny that you should say a shorter track might have been better, because that's what I used to tend to do :). I'll have to find the happy medium.

Csar: Yeah I am a drummer actually, that's why I just love working with beats. The main program I use is called Buzz, you can get it here: http://www.buzzmachines.com/

It'll be confusing as hell if you're not used to tracker programs, and even then it's tricky. The best thing about it is the effects, there's 100's of them! There's a great tutorial in the help file to get you started.

I use acoustic drum samples and I get all of them from http://www.betamonkeymusic.com/ . I chop them up in the Matilde tracker in Buzz by using a command that triggers the sample from different parts. In Cog I ran the Matilde tracker thru a Noise Gate + Compressor to make them more dynamic, and then thru a basic EQ box to clean them up. All this is done within the Buzz program. Most of synths are all from Buzz too, but some of the drops and noises are sampled from the Korg ms-20 and poly from the Legacy pack.

Thanks Pringled and griffin and Ben_j too. Ben_j I can't open any of your trax mate, are they still online?

chemicalreaction: Verdure! I love this track. I'm really into Harthouse label stuff and this reminds me of that style exactly. I get a kick out of how you let the synths fade in and out gradually, that's a great technique. Top tune. _b. You've inspired to start working on some 4/4 tracks.

I was looking through the early posts in this thread- not sure if this problem has been resolved, but if you guys are having trouble sending your tracks, go here: http://www.yousendit.com/

Just email it to yourself, no need to register, and you can send up to 1 Gig. Then just post the link in here and we can all download the .mp3.

These are our quit smoking tracks (at least I'm trying to quit), which you may or may not dig the style of. If you don't like it, well, I hope you do.

Buzz is 100% free, but the betamonkey samples are on CD, therefore not free, but they do have a heap of demo samples on there website that you could experiment with.

trippinvato: I could only get Six Cigarettes to work... that's some trippy stuff right there! Nice breaks. Thanks for the yousendit tip too, it'll come in handy once I run out of space on my ftp site.

Are you insinuating something about my song?

I have no idea if that button actually deletes the song from the server, or files some sort of indecency report. I'll try it sometime.

that yousendit link is for the sender - so actually it would delete the song. the one that posts the link just has to trust the member here...

plus, it stays there only for a limited time wich sucks.

@consumer

could you please make a screenshot of your monitor when you're arranging a track? Something where you can see how put put the pieces (or the chaos at all) together, that would be better for me to imagine. The pics of the website were very irritating...

Thanks anyway!
