Just want to see who will be making it out...
Most of the hotels in Indio are already booked solid, the best I've found so far is 2 queen beds, with a 3 night minimum, for $700.
That's waaaaaaaaaaaay more than I'm willing to fork out, so I need to know who wants to go, and how much ya'll are willing to pitch in.
Lemme know ASAP

I'm in and willing to sleep on floor, in closet, in shower, on toilet, etc. if we can get enough to get costs down. I may be +1 or +2, but I can't count on my unreliable friends at this point.
Other options involve meth binge so sleep isn't a problem, finding prostitutes with beds to stay in, sleeping in the Chems equipment van, etc.

Greyhound is your friend, Bosco. Will cost you less than $200 to get there and back if you can stand being in cramped quarters with many of your obese, smelly countrymen. :D
Tyler, it's not unreasonably difficult to get to Indio from LA. Greyhound-affiliated buses run from Los Angeles bus depot to Indio for less than $40 USD if I recall correctly (might even have been $20, can't remember when I looked). It's a 3.5 hour bus ride one-way. Transport from LAX to the bus depot may be an expensive cab/shuttle ride, dunno.
Although, you could look at what options you have for travelling in/out of Palm Springs airport, as it's MUCH closer to Indio.
Me, I dunno if I'll fly or bus or otherwise yet, but I will be there. Would like to fly, I think, but it depends on funding.

Is it easy to get to from LAX, stash?
It's at least a good couple of hours from LAX to Indio by car. Unless you leave early on Friday afternoon pre fest, there won't be much traffic. But after work hours with all the commuters plus the festival goers there will be tons of traffic guaranteed. Of course if you take a Greyhound you don't have to worry about dealing with driving. But if you rent a car, that might be a tad frustrating.
Flying in you might want to consider maybe taking a flight from London to Dallas, then taking a connecting flight to Palm Springs and that'll put you closer to Indio. You could practically hitch a ride to Coachella from the Palm Springs airport.
Or... and this is a *maybe* you could fly in on a Thursday night and I can pick you up from either Los Angeles or better yet, Orange County airport which is close to my house (but to fly into Orange County you'd have to take a connecting flight from one of the major US airports).
Hmmm...
I really wish I had my old van that sat 7 people!!

Good line-up except...
there's no Chems!!!!!
8O :( :'( }:-@
It would make my year to see the Chems at Coachella and have a mother load of a meet-up. Just a dj set... a wee dj set... oh that would be so drool worthy.
It just wouldn't get much better than that!!

OK - here's an update on the hotel situation which is a bit dire. I think this must be the first year where the hotels have booked solid so long before the event. Every year previous we've always had luck finding a hotel a month beforehand but that's obviously not the case this year. And all the hotels have jacked up the prices. Makes me a bit nervous about the ticket situation, too... even though the only time Coachella sold out was the year before last and that happened at the last minute.
I will not camp. No way, I realize I am too old and fussy and a pussy to deal with the camping situation at Coachella. stash and I will likely only go to one day of Coachella - preferrably the Saturday cuz Fatboy's playin. He is fun, guys. Reeeeeeaaaaaaaaal fun.
There's the $700 dollar option in Indio. Rather close to the venue which is convenient and that's really what the jacked up price is all about.
The other option is a Motel 6 in Palm Springs which is loads cheaper but 2 towns over from Indio. stash has 2 rooms reserved for Friday and Saturday but not a room reserved for Sunday. The good thing about this is it's only $76 a night and although it's a crap motel, it's pretty lax (last year at the Motel 6 in Indio we did get the cops called on us but the whole place was going off a party, many people a room and the cops nor hotel cared) At least it's shelter with air conditioning and... a shower. I like bathing, cleanliness is next to godliness as they say.
So far everything's tentative but I thought I'd give you a heads up. stash will continue to look for a hotel closer to the venue. But at the very worst, it's 2 nights at the Motel 6 in Palm Springs and if some of you stay for Sunday night then we can transfer the room over to you.

So far so good, I guess. I mean, obviously it would be nice to have closer accomodation at better prices, but y'know, it's worth sacrifices to do Coachella. I mean, I think the bus ride was worth it last year. :)
I was really surprised last year that though all the hotels were booked, I was able to get a room at 1 AM on Monday morning/Sunday night just as a walk-up.
Normally I'd be okay with camping, but not with the weather as hot as it gets out there. Last year was fine, but I'm not banking on two years in a row of more moderate climate. The Europeans and British making the trek across WILL die camping in 115 degree heat (= approx double that in a tent! 8O ). I might, too!
The only hitch might be for those of us staying Sunday night getting back to Palm Springs. That's probably workoutable, though.

You are so right Darkstarexodus. So right. It gets hotter than hell out there in the desert. Combine the heat with the overall exhaustion, fatigue from not getting at least a little bit of some quiet sleepy time, the noise of rowdy campers = not house (as mippio would say) Plus worrying about your stuff.
Just to give folks an idea of how hot it gets out there. The first Coachella in October of 1999 it got up to about 110 degrees. The second time we went in April it was about 106 and we pretty much spent the entire day looking for shade.
The kicker was the 3rd year we went during the Come With Us tour. We totally lucked out and knew a friend of a friend's grandmother who had a house in an old folks' community that was a couple of miles from the venue. We decided to walk it rather than drive because we knew at the end of the night we were not going to be in any condition to be behind the wheel no matter how short a distance we had to get back to the house. We got a relatively early start on Saturday morning. It was in the mid 80's when we started our walk out of the neighborhood and onto the main stretch of road that leads up to the venue. We brought water but it wasn't nearly enough.
The sun was beating on our backs and the temperature started rising. Walking alongside the road next to a line of running cars that might as well have been parked because of the traffic going to the venue... plus the heat coming up off the black asphalt must've shot the temperature up a good 10 or 15 degrees. By 1 mile we were dragging. It was pathetic. One of our friends in our crew could take no more and she was turning beet red, she wasn't even sweating and she just collapsed. People driving by were asking us if she was OK and she wasn't, this poor girl couldn't say a word and her eyes kept rolling in the back of her head and she was all slack jawed. Some people driving by gave us water and finally a nice couple on the way to the fest put her and her husband in their car and drove her to the venue. Then she had to wait in line, in that boiling sun and she lost it and started vomiting and security came up and threatened to turn her over to the cops because they thought she was overdosing. Finally someone with a brain working the grounds had the sense to take her out of line and immediately move her to a medic tent. She got a nasty case of heat exhaustion and spent almost the entire day holed up and miserable. Not house.
The desert can kill people. Do not camp - I'm telling you folks who might even be considering it - it can get so incredibly hot and miserable. Camping in a tent will only make it worse. Come with us and leave your camping gear behind.
