well, after what we have seen in guantanamo (pre-trial stage incl. "confessions" later used in trials) and the general US-american public opinion's pre-judgement (not prejudice) with OBL being public enemy number 1, trying to make him or just saying he was responsible not just for 1998 terror but also all 9/11 and possibly even post-9/11 terror, the judgement would have been clear from the first day on. also, do you expect a government to guarantee a fair trial (which is a less) on a person they rather shoot dead in an act incompatible with public international law???

Ben Laden is well-known, there would have been so many journalists and stuff focussing on him while in jail that the americans wouldn't have had time to torture him.
