It's probably hard for people nowadays to realise just how far ahead of its time this "industrial" design was in the mid to late 80s. It was an era when "nightclubs" still had carpets, plush furniture, potted plastic palms, bouncers in monkey suits, drinks with umbrellas and sparklers in them, girls in white stilettos and blokes in suits. Fucking suits!!
Meanwhile the Hacienda looked like this...

I so need this guy to design the interior of my house, maybe if I win the lottery...

The Hacienda was the buzz but my group of friends had no interest in going and I certainly wasn't going to make the trip alone. I should've/could've been more brave and willing but I was 19 and just barely coming out of my shell at the time.
Those pics... the 24 Hour Party People movie made a good likeness of the Hacienda. The Hacienda was torn down by the time filming of that movie began *I think* so those whole club scenes were movie sets I assume?

Yeah, they did a replica set in a warehouse off Great Ancoats St (about a couple of miles from the real location). Apparently it was a good likeness (I still haven't seen the movie, believe it or not?). The set even became a club venue for a year or so.
I met Tony Wilson a couple of times, including a time in a lift with him and Feargal Sharkey, what a claim to fame. Oh, and Bez a few times of course. X-D

As far as 24 Hour Party People, to be honest I didn't care for the film very much so you're not really missing out. Since you were there and got to experience everything first hand, I have a feeling the movie would only serve as a trite bastardization to the memory...

Hacienda: the club that New Orders album profits built.
Yep... and neither they nor Tony Wilson ever made much money out of the club. Most of the money went straight into the hands of dealers each night...
