I wonder, how would it sound if the Brothers would do an unplugged-concert? How weird is that idea?

Oasis did their version of Setting Sun and there are some other songs that can be performed on "real" instruments.

Well, some folks who saw the Chems during this past tour got to hear the unplugged version of Star Guitar. But that was unintentional. ;)

Hmmm. Sunshine Underground done with nothing but banjos... a whole bunch of banjos, hahaha. I'm not saying it would be particularly good, but it would be weird and amusing.

I think it's an interesting idea to have traditional musical instruments covering Chemical Brothers songs. Their music is so textured and layered, you'd need to comission a whole lot of instruments to capture the breadth of a song. Imagine Private Psychedelic Reel done with traditional instruments... Not sure how that would sound. It would be a challenge. I find the Chems' music to be complex when you break it down beat by beat, note by note, melody by melody. Something like an instrumental would call for a more symphonic approach.

But meh - those symphonic covers of Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Pink Floyd etc are always sooooo cheesy, so I'd feel cheesy inside if something like that were released with the Chemical Brothers' name slapped on it.

There was that one orchestral performance that did a bunch of Aphex Twin songs. I could see this being done.

I think an orchestral take on some tracks would have more potential than an acoustic rock set up, but I agree with Whirly that it would more likely have the makings of a cheese fest.

Now, an album with contributing artists (such as Midlake, Magic Numbers, Noel Gallagher, Wayne Coyne, etc.) performing their interpretations of their chemical collaborations might actually be pretty cool.

Also, I believe that turntables and synths and sequencers and software and anything else that makes music should be considered "real" instruments when the right artist is using them. Perhaps "traditional" might be a better word to describe the instruments needed for an unplugged Chem Bros project.

Urr has everyone forgot their performance for MTV with Wayne Coyne? They just looked uncomfortable without their mixing desks, which I believe is actually a buffet table.
