Talking about 303's Propellerheads software are now giving rebirth away for free as they have stopped development of it. You can download it at this site http://www.rebirthmuseum.com/ i do believe it is about 500meg download so broadband would be nice.

yeh i do love revirth, its def the best 303 emu out there, but controlling it and automating it through cubase is a complete arse- its just not designed for midi connectivity :(

i use the audiorealism clone now, its pretty cool. a bit wet, but it does the job.

I quite like the Computer Music one, I forget the exact name of it. It's something like CM-303, it's definately ??-303 anyway. And the price is right - free with the magazine. Good enough for me!

Yeah the audiorealism is probably the best software emulation of the 303 out there....bit pricy though at over 100$ i thought.

Hey you tech-freaks here on the forum, what kind of instruments, midi-keyboards and other synths would you recommend when you would starting to make music with a pc combined with real playing synth for beginners and why?

At the moment, the Novation X-Station offers a decent all in one solution. It's a synth, audio interface (so you can record stuff) and a MIDI keyboard.

That said, any keyboard synth you get (providing it's not too old, as long as it's made after 1990) will kick out MIDI, so you can use anything really.

Hey thanks for highspeed answering! X-D

My problem at the moment is that i can't use my keyboards (it's a Yamaha PSR 410) i have because they're not responding. What kind of interface do i need for connecting my board with my computer. I thought a gameport would do the job but it doesn't seem to be so.

For using the gameport u need a special driver... The driver was on a floppy with my MIDI keyboard.

that could be the solution but that keyboard is a way to old so it didn't bring any drivers along. What can i do to fix that? Are there legal downloads?

I have a yamaha psr 300 and its works fine without a driver just plugged into the gameport of my sound card. I thought it didnt work for a while, but then i realized that the "in" plug goes in the "out" slot and vice versa. :-//

The same holds true for my old Yamaha PSR 500.

I thought it was just me being inept and not knowing any better, or my particular keyboard being tempermental.

You can get a proper MIDI interface (a box with real MIDI ports - the round kind) that plugs into a USB port for 30. Things should work fine from then.

Hahaha!! Consumer, a man after my own heart. Thing-a-me-jig, thing-a-ma-bob, doo hickey, what's-it, whatcha-ma-call-it, doo-dad, thingie... common words uttered out of my mouth when I'm in the desperate situation of having to explain to anyone how to do anything remotely related to computer tech.

:-D

Hehehe, sorry I'll clarify.

I have one of those budget PC's with everything stuck on the motherboard: gfx + audio + gameport. There's no separate soundcard.

Is your PC a similar setup to mine Csar?

I had to go into the BIOS setup and enable the Midi function for the Gameport. I can tell you how to do the same if this is the problem.

If you've got a USB port, try one of these:

Ok, i'll try to make it as simples as possible.

To access your PC BIOS, you have to press the Delete key straight after you turn on your PC. It actually says on the screen "Press DEL to enter BIOS setup" or some such, so press it then. ;)

Once you're in use the arrow keys to move around and the Enter key to make a selection. If you need to backtrack just press the Escape key and if you accidentally stuff up some values, just quit without saving and start again.

On the first screen there should be a list of menu choices. The one you want is "Intergrated Peripherals". Press enter on that and it'll take you to the next screen.

On this screen will be another list, press enter on the "SuperIO Device" and it'll take you to a 3rd screen.

Now at the bottom of the third screen should be something like :

Game Port Address

Midi Port Address

Midi Port IRQ

On mine it looks like this:

Game Port Address - 201

Midi Port Address - 330

Midi Port IRQ - 10

If they have no values on yours, just press enter on them to bring up a choice of values. The 330 and 10 seem to be standard values.

That should pretty much do it.... I hope. :)

Make sure you Save your changes before you Quit!

So now in your music software you can just select the Midi device which could be MPU-401 or some such and your keyboard should work fine.

hmm. weird, there is no "SuperIO Device" in the peripherals section. I just can choose enable/disable opportunities (Parallel Ports and so on) and there's no midi mentioned anywhere.
