Chemical Bros to do rock classics?

Last updated 12 January 2005

The Chemical Brothers have been talking about their new single 'Galvanise'.

It's out next week and has Q Tip from A Tribe Called Quest fame on vocals.

We put it to Tom and Ed that 'galvanise' was a word you didn't hear very often. They agreed, but said when it popped out of Q Tip's head they knew it was a winner:

"We were in the studio with Q Tip, and he just said it as a throwaway bit of his rap and we thought 'Galvanise, it's such a strong, dynamic word, how come no one's used it?'"

"So, we put it in a search engine to see if anyone else had done it, and they hadn't, so now it's ours!"

"Q Tip was awesome, he started off by singing Van Halen songs as a warm-up - maybe we should have that as outtakes from the album!"

The Chemical Brothers' album "Push The Button" is out on the 24th January and they'll be talking to Zane Lowe in detail about it on the 25th.

Many things were revealed, including the fact that there are also unsuccessful collaborations that don't go all the way to the end and also that Q-Tip wanted a gold plated microphone to record on (add that to Bernand Sumner's gold guitar lead). Use the Listen Again feature, roughly 1hr in.

Loads was said, I was quite surprised to hear that there are collaborations that haven't worked/didn't succeed.
