However, as the years rolled by, I soon grew very tired of this tune, radio overkill being a major factor in this. Everytime I went clubing I heard it, it was just overplayed and destroyed for me. It resulted in me not listening to the tune for a few years.
That changed in the hours leading up to the gig in March in dublin, myself and my mate were smoking a few joints, chillin in our room getting ready. She slapped it on an dcranked up the volume, the sheer excitment of the gig being a few hours away had me up dancing around to it. Then when the Chems kicked off with the tune I immediately fell in love with it again and I don't think I've ever loved it as much as I did that night. That first few beats that just get under your skin and thump at your heart.
Genius!

(Don't take my comments about the song bein "outplayed" wrong, I do love this song every time I hear it and frequently request it be played at nightclubs)
Acidchildren you asked what my fav part is, well i would have to say either the "intro" noise before the first "Hey Girl Hey Boy", when I hear it I am filled with anticipation (sp?) of knowin that everyone is about to hit the dance floor, or at 2 mins 48 secs there is a high pitched note that seems to everytime uncontrolably lift my arm and make me point to the sky.
To sum up, I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!!! It is the theme tune to the late 90's, and every party since then!

I totally agree. It has been my favourite song of all time ever since it was released. The track never fails to blow me away, everytime I listen to it (especially on Surrender) 8).

Where I am, I guess having crappy radio has it's good side. ;) It prevented this song from going sour due to being overplayed.
Although late night on Saturday's a few years back, one of the more hip radio stations would play dance music and this song was always on the play list.
Anyway, Hey Boy Hey Girl is a great anthem and pumped full of so much energy. I think it's just one of those instantly recognizable classics - from that fly buzzing sound at the very beginning to where the beat comes in, and of course the call out.
More personally it reminds me of when, in 1999 I got my life back in order and started enjoying things again. 'stash and I had this old beat up mini van and we'd get our friends and all pile in, put this record on and drive off to a club or rave or whatever. This song was our "going out" song and it's filled with a lot of fond memories. That's reason enough for me to always love the tune.

When you say a mini van do you mean this as in a rover mini that we have in the uk?

It doesn't effect me like it used to. That's because I over played the bastard so now I limit myself to how much I listen to it.
I know exactly what you mean, last night I herd it and it really did effect me like it use to as I hadn't herd it when I was out for a while.
I think it really doesnt make a good opening song in the live set however, better later on in the set.

Our mini van, 1989 Dodge Grand Caravan, looked like this:

Ours was better ;) but the shocks and suspension were completely gone. The thing would bounce all over the road to the beat of the music. Good times! I really miss that car. It came in handy when we needed to go places with a lot of people because there was room for 7. I was very sad to see it go when I got a new car.
