Nerdcore and Mia are two of those "UNIQUE GIRLS WHO LIKE CHEMS". There`s about 10000 of those in existance, I think. Very rare!

You mean they come numbered ? 8O whirly, can you confirm this ?

Because for some strange reason, young girls (age 9~21) all like cheap pop crap such as *NSYNC, Westlife, Blue, etc. After 21, they start to love pop-rock boy bands, i.e The Calling, Busted, et al. As they grow, they go more into a 'live music' direction. So, girls who like electronic music are really rare. That`s my opinion.

I never fell into the boyband category, and I have my older brother to thank for that. He never steered me wrong! Actually he and my best friend's cool dad were the biggest musical influences in my life. I was very much into rock and the live aspect of it - I still am in some ways it's good fun and back then it opened the door to other types of music. It can be a positive thing.

I think everyone goes through "phases" of what they like musically, and obviously the marketing geniuses behind boybands and fluffy pop music know what young preteens and teen girls want to see and hear. The good thing is that people grow and change - there are girls who like electronic music, I swear there is. Maybe they're just not as vocal or passionate about it as we are.

Let me check. Ah Yes, here's the mark of the beast stamped right on my behind, number 666! ;)

around here it's more the extemely non-talented, commercial elctronic (well i do't know if you can call it that) acts such as dj sammy or that crappy underdog project. These artists think their really intelligent trying to use all these sounds but they all sound the fooking same. The only reason these tunes are so popular is because teenagers are becoming really stupid and unimaginative and only following simple catchy beats beats whereas some of the chems' songs work on so many levels. There songs are intelligent and mind expanding and fantastic to dance to. something these talentless new dance acts will never acheive.

i'v also missed something out so i'm going to have to have another litltle bitch at the music scene (sorry).

i'm 14 and i go to school with teenagers. But these are teenagers that only listen to what is popular, they don't look around for new musical experiences but just listen to the songs that are "the in thing". This means so many people in this generation will not open there ears and will only end up sticking to one genre. Quite frankly i think this is stupid and I listen to whatever the hell i like and i'm not embarresed to listen to music that's not "in". I listen to a massive vareity f music from metallica to orbital and i encourage you all to open your ears and to serach for a new musical experience and never stick to "the in thing"

Thank you for your time X-D

I find the problem is that they haven't developed yet. Students 'round my school mostly listen to rock. Electronic, Classical, & Jazz tend to require more brain development and effort. Once that effort is made, new music makes sense. Otherwise the frequency are just annoying and difficult to 'decode'. Listening to a variety of musical styles can help this development.

Hey yoshimi, thanks for your insight. It's been a while since I was a teenager and you've given me a refresher course.

Things were the same way when I was your age, give or take a few degrees - most people listened to what was "in" but people had their cliques, too. We had the new wavers, the rockers, the mods, the Duranees, the Madonnas, etc. etc. And good god, we had New Kids On The Block, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson - all that crap very much like what's of today. The thing that's different between then and now is the airwaves. Radio was different then, radio dj's had more control over what they aired, so there was a variety of different stations to choose from. Not to mention there were a couple of pirate stations that snuck in. Sure there was crap on the radio back then too, but at least you could tell the difference between the stations. Couple that with what MTV was showing (back when MTV was worth watching, Yo MTV raps, Closet Classics, 120 Minutes etc. etc. ) and that at least opened people's ears.

Funny, I was talking to my father-in-law last week who's a high school shrink and jazz musician. "Decoding" was pretty much the basis of our conversation and I think you hit the nail on the head here - makes sense. I think music study would help a lot in this area. People underestimate how much importance it has on a child's brain development (as well as adults) and unfortunately with budget cuts, it's the first thing to go in public schools. There's always private lessons...But even so, in my experience with teaching kids piano is that some parents think it's a cure-all for bad grades, or they put music lessons on top of kids who already have a big overwhelming pile of extracurricular activities - so these kids go into music lessons with a chip on their shoulder.

There's nothing wrong with rock though, if it's what moves people I've got no problem at all and it can be good fun. For me it opened up a lot of doors for musical exploration...

Most people at my school listen to rap. Really, about 75% of students listen to rap or what they call hip hop. Its really sad to see the richest whitest people acting like they are a "thug" or think they can rap. Its quite sad when they all say 'no on listens to techno!' when I come around :D

....which exposes them as fools! Pointing out to somebody who listens to what they call - or Eminem calls - "techno" that "nobody listens" to it is not only a contradiction literally, but due to their intended meaning, the statement exposes them as narrowminded.

-> whirlygirl - I know there's nothing wrong with rock, its fantastic. But when thats all somebody listens to - and only one style of it - somethings not right. Imbalanced.
