I just wondered if you people had festivals like this. One which celebrates beer, salutes and embraces beer for what it has done for us as a nation?

I'm off to mine tomorrow, but I can't drink (defeating the whole point I know) cos of Creamfields the next day, and hangovers love me.

There's Octoberfest in various cities throughout California. I haven't been to one, so I don't know about the festivities. Around where I live though, there's microbreweries. They were all the rage about 9 or 10 years ago and they all just started popping up in towns all over. There's a couple of microbreweries in my town that brew some pretty good beer but there's no particular "celebrate microbrew" day.

I know Chicago, Illinois has a large Irish population, and the whole city goes all out for St. Patrick's Day. Some of my earliest childhood memories are of St. Paddy's Day in Chicago. Green, green everywhere. Including the green dye the bars put in the beer.
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

Here in Winnipeg, we too have Oktoberfest, St.Patty's Day celebrations, etc., but the true gem is Folklorama, a two week celebration of all the varius cultures present in our city. Nearly 50 different cultures establish "pavillions" at various locations across the city and have indigenous food, dance, and most importantly, beer. Folklorama was actually just at the beginning of this month.

I made the most of it, consuming 55 different brands of beer from over 30 different countries during the two week span. 8O Some highlights were Leffe Blonde (Belgium), Magnat (Poland), Afansy (Russia), Kirin (Japan). Have to give best of show awards to: Sagres (Portugal), Tuborg (Denmark) and Niksicko Gold (Serbia).

Uh, I guess I got a little off track, but yeah, we celebrate beer... Which reminds me, I think I need to go to the fridge right now....
