those metal barriers at brixton are wicked for stage diving off - especially when i saw the offspring there - might not go down so well at a chems gig!! X-D

It's awesome to read exactly what I was feeling on Saturday night at Coachella. And it's especially nice to know that the feeling was amplified so much, considering my experience at the Chemical Brothers show in Oakland the night before. I felt so bad for Tom and Ed having to experience that crowd--there is nothing more disappointing than playing for a crowd that isn't there to see you, and then barely applauds your existence. Literally, I was dancing my ass off while others just stood their with their hands folded in their arms.

So to go from a place where apathy reigned to a place where love ruled was like ascending from purgatory to nirvana. I was ecstatic to see the Chemical Brothers getting that much love, and to know that they were not completey disappointed by us Americans, to know that there's hope they'll come back to California, or at least to Coachella, makes me happy. I could definitely tell they appreciated the crowd, because their set was SO much more intricate and energized, jammed with so much detail.

I think my experience was embodied by me meeting a completely vivacious and beautiful girl by the name of Emily, who I politely asked if she was rolling. She said no, but that she could feel me and my friends, so I just gave her a hug, and she returned the love without a moment's hesitation.

My favorite part of the Chemical Brothers set was, without a doubt, Believe. I loved the track on the album, but to hear them bring that song to such a beautiful peak, not to mention coupling it with some beautiful visuals, was simply satisfying. The visuals were absolutely impressive in and of themselves. So much metaphor was tied along with them, from schematics of churches, architectural outlines of chapels and sanctuaries juxtaposed against like-images of the U.S. Supreme Court and Congress, supported by the words, "I needed to believe." And when the song peaked and the visuals went from static and motionless to a 3-d roller coaster trip through the deftly crafted schematics, my senses reeled and only one thought crossed my mind--this will forever stay in my top 5 all-time intense experiences of my life.

We flew from Knoxville, TN to Coachella to see a bunch of other bands that Saturday. We originally came to see NIN, the Faint, and The Arcade Fire. All of those guys were really good, but the Chemical Brothers won a unanimous best of show with everyone at the festival I talked to. Absolutely brilliant. I have been converted. Beat the hell out of any other set I've listened to- We were lucky enough to be in the front row. All of the other reviewers have described the set that night, allow me to describe the size of the crowd.

At least 60-70,000 people watched the set. At one point I turned around and jumped off beat with the crowd to see how many heads i could guesstimate. It was like looking at a flesh colored sea, and everybody was dancing. My girlfriend hates most techno and doesn't dance- even she was getting down. The Coldplay stage shrunk throughout the night as more people crowded around the massive tent to see what the fuss was about. No one who was under the tent could've gotten out because of the massive crowd outside that was just as wild. You will not hear a negative review from anyone. Best show ever. Period. I would buy all my friends tickets and drive or fly them to see the Chemical Brothers if they came within five states after Saturday's experience. Brothers, if you read this post, please come to the east coast!!!!

Madpooter, welcome! I like how you went from purgatory to nirvana within 24 hours and I'm glad you got a chance to see the Brothers work it out at Coachella, and experience the crowd working it out just as hard!

21P - glad to have you here - We here in Chemical land love converts! It makes me so happy you loved the show because it truly was an awesome sight and sound to behold.

The more and more I think about it, the more I'm inclined to say that Saturday's performance was the best concert experience I've ever had, and hands down, the best show. Edging out Pink Floyd and (gasp) U2. Between the music and the overall unity of the crowd, it was just so incredibly awesome to be a part of something so much larger than life. Even better to experience that amongst old friends, brand new friends, and my best friend 'stash.

Love is all, baby!!

My favorite Chems concert comparison is as follows:

My friend dragged his old, hippy father - though the man probably actually would've preferred the term "druggie" - to a Chems concert, and he dared to compare the experience to the Jimi Hendryx concerts he saw back in the day...

I'm not sure if I told you whirly or anyone for that matter, but my recording was borked really. Not sure if you remember whirly but after the show when I checked the recorder I saw that it wasn't on. Well my supissions that it had turned off during the show were true. I only got the first 14 minutes of the performance and that I have is in rather distorted quality.

Good news though because I found someone that recorded the performance and am working things out so I can get the performance.

I was going through my crappy recording and I cracked up at this one part right after tom and ed came out. Listen to it here:

Stash: "WE LOVE YOU ED!!!!"

Oh my god, that's awesome. I got a chill through my body just hearing that again!!!

Even still, I'd love to hear that first 14 minutes you captured. Although I'm kind of afraid if my gasps and moans turn up. X-D

Electronic Battle Warrior, I have to say you are the man who lived up to the Electronic Battle name. Just how you snuck in all the recording equipment was just so brilliant, it was legendary!!
