The Chemical Brothers began sending out promo copies of their new single Galvanize this week, which is the first track to be taken off their upcoming new artist album Push The Button. Both the single and its accompanying B side Rize are markedly slower and more hip hop orientated than recent Chemical offerings, though retain the acid house heavy beats they?ve long made their own.

Chatting to Skrufff several months ago , Ed said they?ve recently been inspired by Black Strobe?s Ivan Smaghhe, admitting, ?when electroclash started I initially thought this is something that?s not for me but I?ve been on a couple of dance floors recently and thought ?actually this music really works, it?s really good fun, it?s exciting, it?s druggy and it?s doing it?. He also stressed they had no intention of mellowing out in the foreseeable future.

?The new music we?re making is hard and twisted and some of if is melodic but ever since our first EP we?ve been interested in making music that?s soothing and beautiful and ethereal as well as making fucked up hard dance music,? he stressed.

?The idea that we?re toning down and wanting to reach older coffee table markets, when we?re releasing records like Electronic Battle Weapon 6, mental, mental acid groove, is just so wrong-headed,? said Ed.

The Chemicals? imminent return could also cause mild embarrassment to Alexis Petridis? fellow dance-music-is-dead Guardian critic Caroline Sullivan who wrote off the band this summer.

?With the Chemical Brothers apparently defunct and Underworld on extended leave, Basement Jaxx are pretty much the only big 1990s dance act still telling crowds to wave their hands in the air like they just don?t care,? she claimed. The Chemicals headlined Creamfields just two weeks later.

intresting reading about ed liking blackstrobe. i saw them at homelands this summer and they were quite stunning dj's, there mixing was super tight and they weren't shy dropping EBW 6!!!

also nice to read they are not mellowing with their sound. i remember an article just before they started recording 'come with us' saying now they were in their 30's and this could be the last banging album they might make. looks like that was not true. he boys don't you know the your thirties are the new twenties!!! thats what i'm sticking too at least.

and its nice to see where that rummour about the boys splitting up came from, just some pathetic journalism!!

I like that Ed uses the word "ethereal" to describe some of the more downtempo and melodic tunes!

This Blackstrobe sounds interesting - I may have to give it a listen just to hear what's up.

And right you are sneaker, the 30's are the new 20's... but I'll just keep telling myself that too... as my knees pop when I get out of bed each day... when I hobble to the bathroom only to discover a new crease that wasn't there the day before... ;)

in may 99, basement jaxx made it album of the month in german musikexpress mag and chems not. nevertheless, surrender was no. 10 album of the year in the same mag and basement jaxx weren't in the top 50 either :) :P

Whats wrong with the Jaxx? There live performances are great and dare i say it can at times be better than the chems. Everytime ive seen both bands they have been great but i personally feel outta the 2 times each ive seen the bands this year the jaxx just have the edge. The chems live show focusses on the visuals and the music, whilst jaxx, focus of both visuals and music with excellenent vocalists. I expect Push the button will have the edge on kish kash dance music wise, but i feel the jaxx have dabbled in a great variety of sounds making it a very fresh ablum that shows there music and other dance music has a good future.

People say dance is dieing i say fuck off, its just reforming and renewing moral reflect changes in modern music.

Maybe i do but can you not respond with something contructed rather than offensive? I disagree with some of your views but not all, even if you dont agree with mine theres no need to say that.

What is wrong with Basement Jaxx? Im not saying there overall better than the Chems cause they are very different. But they are very good and i do not understand why you said this about a good band:

yeah if the basement jaxx are the future of dance then its time for me to sell my decks.

Would you not drop a Jaxx tune in Woking?

What is the future of dance then Sneaker? Are you gonna make a difference? Is Darksessions gonna have a night a turmills or you headline festivals like the Jaxx...........i think not!

In my opinion the Jaxx are shit live from what I saw footage of them @ BDO this year, It looked like a fricken circus! ...And to make matters worst the guys started singing half way through Where's Your Head at!...Don't get me wrong I love their music...Kish Kash is gold!

Sorry ACIDCHILDREN:)

Where's your head at had a completely wicked video, I think that was a very good plus for the song. Despite that, I don't think it was that good. Eachone with their own tastes! 8)

I think Basement Jaxx are very good but they are nothing compared to the Chems, there's a just a whole other level on their albums. Jaxx have different styles and Kish Kash was an excellent album 8/9 out of 10 but the Chems offer much more in terms of thought and diversity. They are both excellent live but obviously they are different and cater to different audiences. I think the singing brought the level down a bit but they are still good and capable of making a catchy track. Good dance music is good dance music if you ask me ;-) . And I suppose criticising someone elses dj night is a highly constructive thing to do in a thread about two music artists?

Hey people, lets not try to compare, it just isn't going to work. It would be like comparing God to someone who sells the big issue (no offence to your mum acidchild).

Well i just like Basement Jaxx and wouldnt say it was that bad if they represent some part of the future. Can a band that headlines the other stage with chems at glasto and other festival be all that bad? If you havnt seen them at there best then how can you say there not good? Not every chems track is great neither the jaxx. I think that the best of the chems is better than Jaxx but this doesnt mean there not good.

There is nothing wrong with having my own opnion. And if i get criticised for voiceing that it is very sad. So beatrobot is it ok for people to say i talk 'shit' and them not expect it back? Maybe i shouldnt of criticised darksessions but i was compareing them to the success of the Jaxx.

Every once in a while I feel the urge to drop in Kish Kash, b/c I love Good Luck and Right Here's the Spot, but shortly after that it loses the plot for me.

There are other good moments on the album, but I have to be in the mood to have abrasive noise shoveled through my ears like a 3 inch wide pole wrapped in sandpaper.

Acidchildren of course it's OK to have your opinions. You've seen both the Jaxx and Chemicals live and seen them at the top of their games, so yeah, you have a right to compare the 2 in that aspect. I've heard nothing but good things about the Jaxx live - I heard it is like a carnival on stage, like Mardi Gras and that they are a lot of fun.

To me there's no comparison to the Jaxx and the Chems - but it's just my opinion. I just think album-wise, the Chems got the Jaxx beat by a mile and a half. They're different kinds of music, different kinds of vibes - that's all there is to it and I just prefer the Chemical Brothers and some people share my opinion - no need to slam our opinions.

I know we all love our Chems and we're defensive about them and other music we love. Maybe it wasn't fair for sneaks to say you talk a lot of shit, but slamming Dark Sessions and claiming it unsuccessful is a load of crap and a hit below the belt. Is he not allowed to have an opinion on the Jaxx, and is Turnmills the end all be all measure of success? Come on.
