Just walked in though my front door and had a quick shower, couldn?t sleep so I though I would write a bullet point review and thoughts of Glastonbury 2005???.

-Arrived at the festival around 1pm on Tuesday, I arrived early because I was an Oxfam steward and we call need to get there early! The weather was perfect was It I was really hoping it would hold out all week (how wrong was I)! After unpacking I had a long walk around the site, where I bumped into Mr Eavis and got a photo! Much of it was similar from previous years; however the Dance area was huge and consisted of loads of big and small tents. The Glade seemed to look a lot smaller than before due to the movement of the stage position.

-On Wednesday my friends arrived, who were attending as punters, I then moved into there tent as I wanted to be closer to the pyramid stage instead of in the staff camping area. On Wednesday evening Southern Fried Records were hosting a night the Budweiser crowd tent, this consisted of Dj Touche, Cagedbaby, Grandadbob, and a few other I now cant remember, all of which I missed! There were also rumors that Fatboyslim and Zoe Ball would be making an early festival appearance but unfortunately this was untrue! I was lucky enough other to bump into Rob Da Bank, who I spoke to briefly about Bestival, asking him about the unfilled headline spot, I asked why The Chemical Brother were not doing it and apparently this is due to there contract with V festival, but he did try also with Kraftwerk, but not with The Prodigy, who he seemed to be keen on when I suggested it to him!

-Had to get up early on Thursdays, which sucked as I was working an 8 hour shift in the coach park for Oxfam. The shift went well despite the weather being very hot! In the evening much more was going on. I herd a rumor that Royksopp were playing a Dj set in the orange tent, so I headed down there at around 10pm. When I arrived Royksopp were not spinning but another wall of sound Dj. In the Dj booth I noticed Radio ones Lottie, I decided to have a quick chat with her due to her good looks, managed to get a picture with here aswell! Royksopp soon arrived, I briefly spoke to both of them telling them how impressed I was by the new album, It was however difficult chatting with them due to Language Barriers! Unfortunately however they did not Dj and were just hanging about. I moved onto another bar were I managed to catch an excellent live set from the Loose Cannons and also the Infadels, both of which were very impressive!

- Woke up to a fucking huge storm, my tent was shaking like fuck, and the rain was pissing down, later on I saw the damage this had caused, many peoples tents had been lost, the site was a mud bath in the parts that weren?t flooded! Peoples tents were so fucked, many just left and went home, there was shit everywhere for the fallen porter loos!

-After working I was ready for a massive night! The first major band I saw were Baby Shambles, who were crap, mainly due to Pete arriving very late and very drunk! Next up were Bloc Party, who were very impressive, I knew few of there songs but thought there were a good indie/rock act when performing live. I quickly ran over to the dance area to the Glint arena where Justin Robertson was brewing up a storm ready for the chems! Royksopp were next on the bill on the other stage, there set was pure chilled bliss, playing much of the new and old album to the small crowd, there performance was very enjoyable playing all there hits, as a live dance act there weren?t bad and are well worth checking out!

-Next up on the other stage was the mighty Fatboyslim! Before he came on the crowd were issued with ?Palookavison? glasses which when worn allowed the user to see lots of smile faces. There was a long build up to him coming on with loads of horns being blown. The curtains were then removed showing a massive screen, where FBS was sat in a hole in the middle behind the decks! He first dropped praise you, which was well taken by the huge crowd. Nest up I recall him playing snippets of Fucking in Heaven, before Groove Armadas Frogma and the beats on Blurs Song2 were played. Love Island was also slammed in there. I set seemed average to normal FBS standards, I think he didn?t want to play anything to hard as it was a mixed crowd of fans who weren?t only into dance. I decided to cut the set sort and head over to Glint were the Chemical Brothers were spinning! I missed the first 30 mins of the set, put still was a good 2 hours worth of pounding breaks and hard techno beats! I couldn?t even say the track order, there were so many squelchy acid tracks being played, However tracked played included; EBW7, Believe, Nude Night, Surface To Air, Slow(remix), Sergeant Peppers Longley Heart Club and Hey Boy Hey Girl. The set seemed to be one of there better Dj sets I had seen, it was very hard but still easy to get into. I was quite far back in the crowd of around 2000 people, however managed to slip more and more towards the front as the set continued! They closed the set with there Slow remix, the crowd didn?t want them to stop and Tom and Ed didn?t seem to want to stop! I managed to lean over the barrier and got Toms attention, I told him I was acidchildren, and instantly knew who I was from the forum, I told him it would be nice for them to come on the forum more, told him that the Brighton show was good( especially Chemical Beats) and also commented that sneaker wasn?t there. After a heavy night of drinking and wonder around the Greenfield?s I crashed in my tent!

-Again Saturday I was working early. In the afternoon and evening I managed to Check out, Timo Maas (not a great as I was hoping), Kasabian (very good live) and Coldplay. For Coldplay the Pyramid stage field was packed, they play much of the new album aswell as the classics such as clocks and poltik. There very much brown nosed Mr Eavis, but also paid tribute to Kylie by playing a lovely cover of can?t get you out of my head. Also got a photo with myself and Sara Cox!

-Sunday was a relaxing day. The bands I saw included; Brian Wilson (played all the beach boy smashes), Garbage (didn?t know much of there tunes but still an impressive rock act and the one and only Basement Jaxx on full out attack! The Jaxx played an excellent headline set opening with Good Luck, then playing most the singles album, aswell as covering Motor Heads Ace of spades, Kylies can?t get you out of my head and Audio Bully?s Shoot Me down. On My Gosh Sounded super live, and the encore included a carnival style performance of Bingo Bango! Much of the tracks varied so much from the cd, which much emphasis on brass instruments! After the Jaxx I had a quick wonder around the Circus fields before travelling home with my mate.

Hope you liked my review, I was so good to be part of Glasto 2005, and the emphasis on making poverty history was also a great idea. Sorry about any possible mistakes. I?m tired and going to bed!

Nice one, thanks for the review man. I've been downloading the "live from Glastonbury" radio sets that have been appearing around the place, sounds like it was a wicked event. Disapointing about Timo Maas' set, I'm not sure if I like or hate the new stuff on his album, so it's interesting that his set wasn't the best.

Fantastic review mate! Was a pleasure to read it. Too bad the Forum CD wasn't finished yet, it would have been a good occasion to drop them a copy.

ACIDCHILDREN, thanks so much for the review!!! That rainstorm sounded terrible - but it sounds like Fatboy and especially the Chems brought on the sunshine! What a cool mix of tunes they played, then again who would expect anything less than the best?

Also very cool that you got to have a few words with Tom - much respect to the man for knowing who you were, and much respect for you to making your way up to the front to chat in the first place. Now that's dedication!

Glad to see you had a great time. Hopefully you're rested and refreshed by now! :)

rathere than start a new thread, i thought id tack mine onto acidchildrens, hope u dont mind dude!! (btw, sorry i didnt catch up with u acidchildren - my mates did tell me u called round but it seems everytime u got to our stall i wasnt on shift!! next time mate, next time - could have got u a tasty discount on the venison steaks as well ;)) btw where did u camp? hope you weren't near the other stage!! - also apparently there was a second person who came to look for me, but he didn't leave a name, and said he knew me off the boards - please identify yourself mystery man!!

ok, got there weds and it was beautiful weather. wandered round and checked out the stall where i would be doing an 8 hours shift a day for the next 4 days - brutal. it was quite nice having a base spot though, with your own portaloo (which didnt flush - i didnt realise this and left a little present for my co-workers. when i walked back into the stalls there like 'tom, that toilet doesnt flush' and im like erm yeh i just realised :-// cue me getting a bottle of water and manually flushing mr poo away - eeeuuuugggh X-D )

genereally chilled weds evening, went and sat up the stone circle where all the heads hang out - it looks amazing, its just a field with a circle of styones ijn the middle with the hippies drumming the sun up and thousands of people sat round with flares - very inspiring stuff :)

thurs met up with some more of our crew and did my 8 hour shift - i had to do 9 to 5 on thurs and sat and 5 till 1.00 on frio and sun - which meant diurectly clashing with the chems!! gaaahh!! i was working with sound poeople though, anna and her fella seb who own the stall, a lass called kate who was good friends with mani from the scream (mani called her up after they played and got invited backstage afterwards to go for a drink with them and she said no! i think she was a bit too off her box and they had just made dicks of themselves as well with their hmmm 'controversial' performance) and a geezer called grandad (not his real name! in fact, i still dont know his real name ) X-D who was sound as a pound, but a fucking animal - he got so battered hehehe mushroom tea for breakfast and nose when we were working haha anyway, they agreed to cover me for some of fri night which was cool.

anyway, worked all day thurs, it wasnt too bad but its quite tiring, especially when it got busy. i was making venison wraps, and i found it to be quite zen - the quest for the perfect wrap hahaha'its all about the angles' heheh went to bed quite early and woke up friday to the sound of elephants tap dancing on my tent and some geezer with a thunder machine booming it round the festival in dolby. oh no, it was actually one of the worst storms in 50 years and just happen to shit its load on glasters at 5.00am fri morning - it lasted forever!! apparently 1 months rain fell in 5hours - tenets were washed away etc etc and the festival became a quagmire.

there was fuck all on fri day, so we just tried to chill and keep dry. i started my shift, then went to see two lone swordsmen play - andy weatherall (personal hero of mine) doiung a live set!! gaaah! missioned over there, in my shorts and trainers, covered literally up to my knees in mud - and it was ok, not what i was expecting - it was a full band line up, and they sounded a bit like some post-rock thing, not very electronic at all - it was alright for what it was, but i wanted more wibble, oh well, cant have everyuthing.

basically - getting anywhere was a nightmare, it was that muddy - i ahd to go from work, see the two lone swordsmen then back to work, then back to see the chems, then back to work to clear up - bear in mind it's aboiut 1/4 a mile each way inm pools of thick sticky mud, i have no idea how i managed it!!!

anyway, went to see the chems, they were fucking cool, played a suitably psychedelic set, phat tunes, mad up for it crowd - surface to air sounded amazing and 'slow' remix at the end is always a nice touch. they also play that 'compulsion' cut up with the 'what we're gonna do riught here is go bac'' sample from the start of the 1998 (?) essential selection which alwasy gets my hands in the air.

by this point had consumed enough vodka to knock out the pope, nd stumbled back to work and did the washing up hahaha. partied till late the got up at 8.30 to go to work :?

i got to work and my trainers were proper fucked - so i ran them under the tap with my feet still in them. big mistake. i worked all day (we we're really fucking busy, thouhg mike skinner from the streets came and looked at our burgers which was cool 8) ) and when i took my shoes off at the end i had the horrible white fleshy signs of trencfoot - ouch. my feet fookin killed - my mate charile bless her copttons got me a bucket of luke warm water and i sat them in there and dried them off, but my feet proper hurt man. borrowed some wellies off seb and went to see the earlies who wee amazing! they plaed a 40 minute set and were totally psychedelic and ace - i heartily recommend them. we were gonna see layo and bushwaka after that, but couldnt be arsed so we got some nice food and had a drink and i went to bed quite early.

sunday got up feeling refreshed, the sun was out the mud was drying (i cant begin to tell u how much of a pain the arse the mud was - getting anywhere was a nightmare, it got really sticky, people were losing shoes left right and centre, and u couldnt just sit and chill anywhere because the ground was so sodden) - went to catch quantic soul orchestra, but due to mud lengthening time travel only caught the last ten minutes - headed over to see jamie lidell do his live thing and he was fucking AMAZING - he samples himself beatboxing and loops it up then sings over the top and creates these wickedly funky grooves on the fly - he's got a top voice and he also performed in a kimono style smoking jacket which gets him top marks! if u get a chance to see him do, because he rocks hard.

went and sat for an hour by the main stage in the son listening to van morrison which was lush = proper glastonbury vibes, just chilling and talking arse. back to work for tom until 1.00, then i met up with my mates where we headed for the lost vagueness field - things get a bit erm vague here hehe - basically its a mad trippy field with a casino, boat swings, wedding chapel (!!!) and some marquees - fuck knows what heppened but it was fun X-D we headed up the greenfields after this, where we found a beach with a skiffle band :? im not entirely sure this happened, well it did but it was well surreal! basically they had a wooden hut and out the front a campfire with a load of sand round it and some benches - they had loudsp[eakers set up next to it with the sound of the sea and birds tweeting palying!! (though they def werent seagulls - as i said to m'chebne a few times ' they aint seagull mates, there def magpies X-D well, u had to be there i guess X-D)

watched the skiffle for a bit then went up tp the stone circle for a beautifull glastonbury sunrise. lovely lovely morning 8)

monday - went home :( left glastonbury campsite at 12.00pm = got in the door 10:45pm - not much fun!!

had an awesome time anyway, cheers tom n ed for a ripping set. im just gutted next year is the fallow year and there wont be one till 2007. :(

Ah... thankyou mippio for the review of your muddy Glastonbury adventure! I hope your feet are feeling better now, the things we do for the Chems!! It sounds awesome that no matter how horrible the rains were and how muddy it got, people still just carried on and there were enough good vibes going around.

If I ate venison, and if I were at Glasto, I would've definitely had you make me a zen-like wrap!

Glastonbury Chief Dismisses Dysentery Alert

Newspaper reports suggesting that revellers at last weekend's washed out Glastonbury event could have caught dysentery have been dismissed as 'total rubbish' by the music festival's organiser Michael Eavis.

"The cows have not grazed on the festival site for a long time, so there was no danger of e-coli. As far as dysentery goes, there was no problem whatsoever, in fact no drinking water was affected at all by the weather," he told the BBC. "While it is not a good idea for people to roll in the mud, it's what they like to do," he added.

The dysentery alert was apparently prompted by raw sewage which contaminated the flood waters after numerous toilets overturned and was picked up on by media organisations across the world. Symptoms of the disease can take years to manifest and in the case of amoebic dysentery can be 'mild and vague such as persistent low-grade abdominal discomfort and nausea' according to Britain's NHS Direct.

"Liver abscesses may cause fever and weakness, referred pain in the right shoulder (referred pain means pain apparently in one place that is actually caused somewhere else), nausea, jaundice, loss of appetite and loss of weight," their website adds.

http://www.mediresou...?disease_id=156 (Dysentery: The Facts: Many people have spent a tropical vacation with a bad stomach bug. They might have had dysentery . .')
