That really is interesting Chin...
For clarification:
http://en.wikipedia....epard%27s_scale
A Shepard Scale is a tone that can loop an octave to make it sound like it is rising forever without actually doing so. Listen to the Coachella bootleg and you can hear them playing one right before they go into "Escape Velocity". It's interesting that this would come up in an interview since the studio version of Escape Velocity doesn't seem to have the Shepard Scale... a different track on the album, perhaps?

The sound was already used in Clip Kiss actually. It's cut but it's the same (listen after 4:16)

I love that sound. I've been trying to make one like that but it's not that easy.

I copied the shepards scale exact in ableton. it has a very particular sound not to be mistaken for ascenting apreggio, like the Intro of escape velocity, which has a distinct rising point. I'll upload a clip one of these days of a shep scale, It basically sounds like a singing barber pole, it's awesome.

I did a Shepard Tone of my own with the MonoPoly (VST) using the 4 VCOs with 12st between each, fading out the higher and fading in the lower. It pretty much works but I have a click at every changing. I need to find the right BPM to have no click

EDIT : here it is

Ancient text discovered-gives clue to sonic creations http://twitpic.com/1otd2i

It appears to be something about K+D+B... but as to what specifically, I'm not quite sure. It branches off into several sections, which could mean, in my mind, one of two things: either K+D+B is a multi-part track, or its accompanying visuals are rather diffuse. Considering it says "sonic creations" I'm siding with the former. Awesome (possibly)!
EDIT: That may not be correct. Both K+D+B and whatever's above it (Horsepower, perhaps?) end with the word "Eclipse". What could that mean...?

I see "Juno A R" or "Juno A 12" next to one of the arrows. I guess the Juno plays something in K + D + B. Can't really read the rest.

EDIT : oh and under that "Mono G 10". I think it's the Korg MonoPoly. A and G must be keyboard notes.
Could be a program number for the Juno, too.(Bank A, program 12 ?)

EDIT bis : under that, I think it's Poly Evolver

The Eclipse could be a piece of gear too. There's an Eventide Harmonizer called Eclipse.

EDIT ter : BINGO ! Look at the FX Rack :

There's an Eventide Eclipse

You, sir have cracked the code! So that's the equipment they used on K+D+B... and apparently the Eclipse was also used on Horsepower. Nice!

I guess the harmonizer is used on every tracks. I think this is just notes for the program changes, stuff like that.

EDIT : or not. It's a multieffect.

On the line on the top of the page : "Eclipse -> 239 on Juno"

You guys are too much, haha!

Impressive!

If this were the Lost forum you'd have had the entire show figured out by season 3.

I'm too sleepy to put together exactly what all these links mean--that is, could you say concretely for what K+D+B stands?

As I currently understand, they stand for 3 different pieces of equipment and/or patterns used on the song. :-x
