Csar - Midnight Sunrise (5th Version) http://www.electroma...p?id=b0c28206b9
This is a very warm tune. It's very easy listening sort of material but that is also the track's problem. There are no highlights in it. I like the jamming that starts 6 minutes into the song and continues to the end but even there when you try to listen to the track actively it doesn't seem to go anywhere. Perhaps you could shorten/spice up the track somewhat? For an example, the intro stops at 0:15 and then it's mostly the same loop until 2:02, that's like almost two minutes without change. So all in all I think this track is excellent background listening material. The drums don't bother me at all this time, nice improvements there :)
ChemicalReaction - Be There http://www.mp3.com.a...k.asp?id=120423
Very sweaty feeling you have going on here. The storming beat combined with low key sounds works nicely. Especially the low key sounds, they are brilliant! The lead that starts at 0:50 is very interesting and you even tweak it subtly! When that line stops at 1:30 a new bass line starts. This line is interesting in the way that even when the loop stays the same it still feels like it's building into something (and later you make a real build out off it with some cutoff twisting :)
A couple of problems:
Firstly, the interesting bass line build goes pretty flat at the top. Secondly, the acid line starting at 3:12 sounds nice but doesn't really go anywhere. Thirdly, the track stops into a brick wall :D
Ben_j - Nibbler will kill us all http://benji.ng.free...%20us%20all.mp3
(first impression)
Techno.
(second impression)
You know this reminds of the time when I made a synth abusing track with intentionally annoying distortion.
(third impression)
I bet you listen to this all day long.
(fourth impression)
25 minutes, seriously?
(the actual review)
Well I guess some niche of people enjoy this sort of trashing techno but I don't really fancy the sort of turmoil you cook up at 5:10. So I'll just comment of the technical side of things. The interesting thing is that although the track sounds a bit like a joke (especially the ending) the production is alright and there is quite some variation in the track. Based on this I'd say that you are clearly capable of making far better and more "accessible" tracks. Your myspace page confirms that :)
Mippio - Office Politics http://www.musicv2.com/artist/mippio
Bwahaha, this must be the tune the man from The Golden Path video is hearing before he starts tripping into donuts ... remember the face he has in the elevator right at the start of the video? :D
I like the 1/16th shifting idea in the clock sample, but I think the tempo for it is a little too fast (time is advancing at a snail-pace in the office, am i rite?) so the ticking becomes pretty annoying. On the other hand, maybe you could have added some grunts and yawns into the track just for the kicks. The claustrophobia strikes at 4:00 ("Why am I wearing this necktie?!") and The Golden Path fades in at 6:50, right?
Interesting bollox it is.
V Man - I Orbit The Earth http://www.electroma...p?id=1144348303
Nice intro. For some reason, I don't like the first bassline at all. The sound is ok, but the melody is really annoying. The second version is better and although I'm not an expert when it comes to Orbital I'm hearing some likeness there. I also don't like the lead melody, at least when it is played at full volume. Therefore I think the best part of the track is the time when those two lines are not played which starts with the nice sub-riff that Darkstarexodus also mentioned. Pretty nice until 3:35, after that the cutting-off-parts-of-loops-thing doesn't work that well. Maybe you could have used the nice new sound you introduce at 5:35 a bit more? So I'd say mostly nice sounds and good rhythm, but yeah, a bit more focused arrangement would have been better. IMHO Orbital made some unfocused tracks as well, so a nice tribute to their style if you tried that ;)
Consumer - Innocent http://home.austarne...usic/vma_03.mp3
Good flow throughout the song. The acid line works really well here and doesn't mess up the lightweight feeling. Good productions tricks overall. As you admitted yourself the treble is a bit too sharp, but it is only really disturbing when it comes to the snare+hihat/cymbal-combo-sound. As for a downtempo song I find that combo a little too pounding. I like the sort of long fade out that starts at about 3:30, a fine way to end this track and my favourite part of the track. Good work!

There is also quite a number of new tracks posted by Ben_j and Csar. I listened to some of them, I'd say briefly that very nice work Csar, your most interesting tracks yet and your production skill seems to grow all the time and Ben_j's work is promising but the patterns are currently a bit too simplistic. So I'll just strongly encourage everyone to have a look into their respective pages, Ben_j: http://myspace.com/benji7905 and Csar: http://www.electroma...p?id=b0c28206b9 .
Interestingly enough our very own Chrisman seems to have a myspace page too http://www.myspace.com/chrismansounds and he has a very good track called Paint It Again there. Also, there's a track Play With Me At The ... (teaparty?) which was formerly floating here on the forums by the name Drunk In The Underground :)
That's it for my super-review-pack, why don't you go and write some now?

Ni - four and half minutes worth of boring^W brilliant 4x4 with electroish glitchy sounds.
Coming up later:
A six minute improvised one-take piano solo.
A pretty catchy track.
A remix of Csar's "Papermoon's Glow".

Hahaha :) I think I created this thing maybe 1 year ago, it was on a loong freestyle track I did, I don't have the "source" file anymore... I wish I could rework it cause It had some good things in it.
And for Le Captain Bigleux, I know the sound I used are "cheap" but it's because it's not a serious track, it's a complete trip about this french fake ad :p
I'm uploading a track I did recently in about 3 days...
it should be on http://myspace.com/benji7905 when you read this (the name is "Downtown" if you have a better name, I'll be pleased )

i haven't recorded any new tracks yet but i have tons of new material which is gonna surpass anything i have done so far. Beats are sounding better, basslines are just awesome, effects are over the top. Should produce them in near future. I am gonna review 'Ni' soon 2. really excited to hear csar's remix 8)
hey we should maybe start working on chemically imbalance 2

I'm so sick of my unfinished tracks right now to be honest. I need a better setup soon, or I might just chuck the whole thing in. There's a chance coming up in the near future for unsigned artists on JJJ radio and I need to be ready for it! Could be my "big break" type thing.

The track sounds the same both played normally or in reversed order.

The distinction of this album is that all tracks are interrelated, i.e. if, for instance, someone's calling on the phone in one track, the phone will be ringing in another at the same time.

idea to run multiple mp3 players parallel in shuffle mode just like musicians playing different instruments. In this case the instruments are not only pianos or synths but also natural atmospheres and sound effects. Islands of Consciousness consists of four parallel layers: Layer one plays synth background pads, layer two is the piano track, layer three holds ambient atmospheres and layer four contains all kinds of different sounds and effects. Just like in a regular composition the sounds vary in length and in fidelity
