On the subject of Freestylers, I dont think there all that bad, they make a wide mixture of records, some tearout, some dnb and some hip hop breaks, theres far worse out there.

The Verve couldn't have written a song like the Test ever - forget producing it - don't get me wrong I like a bit of their stuff here and there, but I think the Test is something Ashcroft could have never dreamt of doing in his career hadn't Tom n Ed decided to bless him. Check out the fuckin drums on that song.
Oh come on now, do you really think I'm that deaf of course I *have* heard the drums in that song. ;) It's one of my favorite Chemical Brothers' tunes, and one of the best collabs in my mind.
I can see what you're saying and I can appreciate where you're coming from. Of course the Verve couldn't have written a tune like The Test - they were broken up by the time the Test was written. As far as producing - the Verve certainly produced but as it goes, you know me - I think the Chems are tops when it comes to production!
Anyway - the lyrics are real Ashcroft. Ashcroft's voice will always be The Verve to me even if he sang in a bluegrass band. Probably because I'll always associate that voice with the band. I remember reading this bit with the Chems and they were talking about when Richard Ashcroft came into the studio to record the Test. He had taken the track home and whipped up some lyrics then came by the studio a couple days later. And whe he started singing, The Chems' jaws hit the floor. Kind of like how my jaw did when I first heard it.
Hmm. I think I'll give it a listen right now!

Whirly - Totally agree there - know exactly where u'r coming from too. ;)
And I agree, it's one of my fav collabs if I had to choose one at gunpoint. That and Out Of Control. What fuckin singing on both.
