Hello !
I don't really know the chemical but I was at the Paris show last friday and here is what I thought at this moment.
For me, they could have use their CD that I wouldn't have seen the difference. Let me explain, I'm not saying they are not really playing live, it's just that I don't get what are they really doing behind their computers.
Can someone with quite experiences in that domain, explain me what are they doing and what is the difference between studio and live songs.
Thanks !

actually, I do not think they have the *tracks* on harddisk, as in the proper audio tracks.
They do indeed have the sequences in the MPC (white thing right to the main mixer, you can see Tom tweaking it), and the midi data is sent to the hardware (samplers and synths everywhere on stage), which is tweaked live by Ed. The synths ans samplers generate audio signal, which is mixed and effexcted by Tom (Mackie mixer on front and effects in a rack underneath the MPC)
But I have to agree: the more i see them live (it is my fourth time), the more I feel they (esp. Ed) do not do much on stage. but it is allready a lot of work.

People who cant appreicate them live need to listen to the cd more then look at how they rebuild and structure the tracks live. Theres so much i could say about there live shows and how could the way they perform is different to the cd for example the mixing in of other tracks, the effects, the different beats and synth sounds ect.

when i saw them in le Zenith, i've noticed something wich looked like a computer behind them, i think it's their G4...
Nope, no computer on stage. The blueish light comes from the screen of an AKAI sampler (S5000 or S6000, hard to tell. i do not think they use them in the studio, just live because they have a lot of memory).

there definitely IS an apple computer on the stage but i don't know what it is used for.
and i did not write they're havin the tracks on harddisc, just the basics. in anearlier interview tom said "the basic material we have on harddisk but we build up the whole thing live" or something like that

Ok, I may have missed it. Where is it?

I know, I just wanted to explain a little bit, so the guy doesn't think it is coming straight from a hard disk, which would be as bad as a coming straight from a CD...

I was in Le Znith and I saw two laptops .... but they were used by the VJ's :)
BTW, did someone notice that just before the commercials, DJ James wasn't playing at all ? The music came right from Winamp started on one of the PC...
Well, at least you could really feel the difference between the DJ set and the Winamp set.
