is it general admission? I know sometimes even GA places list row numbers... I can't imagine the Chems would have a show with assigned seating.

hmm i've never been to a chems concert but i;ve been to shit load of concerts

I'm small also really small so i know how it feels

I don't think you really have to worry abot getting crushed because there gonna be no pits. Just do yourbest to push yourway to the front so you can see better.

It depends on the venue. If its in a statium type thing and your tickets are in the stands your probly gonna be in seats. Don't worry it can be just as amazing from the stands. If your and your mate got the tickets together then your seets are garenteeed to be next to each other but sometimes it dosn't matter. You'll probly be standing the whole time anyway.

Your never to young to go to a concert. Its an amazing experience. I wen't to my first concert at your age also.

with that said don't take drugs from randmon people at the show. Its not safe. If your 13 i suggest you don't take any at all. But if for whatever reason you choose to grab before you go from someone you trust.

Have fun. It will be an amzing experience

Hey Jester, here is what I wrote in the Liverpool thread:

  1. whirly wrote:

Hey, 13 isn't too young for a show. I was around that age when I went to my first concert. That show was assigned seating, however, no general admission anywhere and I was with my older brother and his friends so it wasn't a challenge to stand my ground. The crowd were fanatical and into it, but there was no moshing or anything of the sort.

The Chems might be a little different though. I myself am short, only a tad over 5 ft. tall and it can be hard for me to stand my ground especially when the crowd is tight. But don't let your age be a factor. I am old enough to be your mother Jester (that's a scary thought!!) and personally think it's really cool to see young people at shows. I'm here to tell you that going to a show where there's only older people standing around with their arms folded is an absolute drag. So a good mix of all ages is good for everyone and having young people in the mix of an all ages crowd is good for a show, good for a band to see they're reaching people of all ages. Will this be your first concert, Jester?

As for being able to see, I think you should be fine. The visuals are really eye popping and larger than life this time around. Plus the crowd ebbs and flows at these types of concerts without assigned seating. The person in front of you 5 minutes previously will likely have meandered to another spot in the crowd later on. You should be OK as long as someone who's 6'3" doesn't stand in front of you the whole time.

Fair play what Jenny says about drugs. I know you'll do what you want to do but 13 is too young IMO. It really is - you can go sober and have your wits about you and you won't have to worry about anything like drugs getting in the way. So really, my advice as a parent is lay off this time and just go to the show and enjoy.

Since it's your first show, you're 13 and not very tall - I do NOT recommend trying to push your way to the front. It gets awfully crowded and though the crowds at Chems shows are generally communal, friendly and there to dance, it's not uncommon for people getting a bit too territorial over their "space". Or if people are knocking into them. So if you want close to the stage, just get their early. I've seen the Chems dj and live 6 times in all at different vantage points varying from up against the rails to very close back to of a crowd - and it's been really cool each time, adds to the ever evolving experience. Just don't worry about it and you'll do great. You're there to dance, have fun and enjoy your first ever concert and Chems experience so you're going to have a good time no matter what.

And quit worrying about your age. :P

Age will not matter. Everyone can enjoy a chemical brothers show. Didn't Jeanie bring her mom to a show?

Yeah, Jeanie brought her mother. She posted a great pic of her mom during the gig, too. Her eyes were wide eyed and surprised, and she had this enormous grinning look of joy on her face.

I love Jeanie's mom, I've never met her but she seems cool.

No need to freak. If the person in front of you is tall, you just move over a couple feet. Chemical Brothers shows are not too bad with the audience movement. People just dance around and have fun.

Now, at a Prodigy concert, for example, you'd want to keep ahold of whoever you want to stay near. That was a real mosh environment. I held onto my girlfriend and we were somehow swept right up to the front. It was quite awesome though. I would've loved to have been swept through a sea of people at my Chems concert, but alas..

hehehe, Jenny - my mom has never been to a concert, ever. In her time, she missed out on Elvis, The Beatles... She liked the music but going to a concert was something that never interested her. She's not into crowds, at all. I tried to get her to come with me back when I was still living at home. It's just not her thing and never will be. I think it's kind of sad.

Gillenium, how exhilirating almost to have been swept up in that sea of people moving toward the stage!! I've heard first hand accounts of how nuts things are at a Prodigy show. I've never been... As for the Chems, I was able to move right up to the front when I saw them DJ. No problems, everyone was friendly. I got very close when I saw them live at the last Coachella they played - the crowd ebbed and flowed, it was very communal there was no stage rushing - non of that. Seeing them play at Nocturnal, there was no way of getting any closer than 30 feet from the stage. It was so jam packed, wall-to-wall and squishy with ravers - quite an experience in an of itself just because I hadn't been in a crowd that thick in god knows how long.

My mom has been to a shitload of concerts in her day. Come to think of it both my parents have. All 70's and 80's though. I would def take my dad to see the chems he'd enjoy it.

I've been to see the Violent Femmes and Oingo Boingo a couple times with my mom... once we even got to go backstage and meet Danny Elfman (the guy who did the soundtracks to just about every goth movie ever) cuz my moms dentist was related to their drummer.

I would take her to a chems show.

Hi Jester, just relax and enjoy the show.If you're near the front it'll be amazing but if you're further back to avoid it being squashy it'll still be amazing and you'll get the full effect of the visuals.A no lose situation!I know you're curious about actually being able to see them but after it gets going you'll realise that it isnt really too important as its more the vibe and atmosphere and sheer enjoyment of people as they react to the sounds.I've seen them 6 times so far from varying positions and lets put it this way, there hasnt been a bad spot yet!you didnt say where you're seeing them but almost all Chems shows are standing. You didnt mention drugs other people did on here and I would be inclined to agree with them as regards keeping a clear head.Jeez at 13, I was playing Connect 4 not going to gigs!Enjoy.

I'd suggest you to wear some waterproof pants :D . When I enjoyed my first chemical gig back in 2005 I was close to a wettish incident.

Man, it's kind of a strong decision making your first live experience ever a chemical one. But you won't regret it anyways ;-).

It'll be pretty intense I predict. Btw, be aware that you'll never ever forget this first live event for your entire life (particularly a chems gig). And it's very likely that it will change you in some ways.

As for the formal things I don't believe there are any serious row numbers given hence you'll choose the place you want (if there's some space left :-) ). So it won't be a problem dancing with your mates there. One thing that could be an issue though is the immense volume at where they usually play their tunes. So if you've got any trouble with your ears or eardrum, it's recommended wearing some plugs to reduce the noise a little. That's no joke, they're the loudest band I've ever heard (watch the live DVD interview portion ;-) ).

One last advice: don't watch any youtube footage beforehand. When I was there for the first time I really didn't know what would happen the next 1:30h - and it blew me away, totally. My soul was somewhere else but not on mother earth.

Man, that Tomorrow Never Knows intro stuck in my ears for weeks I remember. Then, one day - don't know who put this up - this fabulous Coachella Set appeared on the horizon of this forum and it blew me away once again (I yelled "This intro, fuck, it's this intro I heard in Berliiiiin!!!"). That couldn't have happend with youtube and the likes.

Go there as pure as you are and be there with all your heard. You'll never forget it.

Have fun.

Yeah, when Csar says "be aware that you'll never ever forget this first live event for your entire life (particularly a chems gig). And it's very likely that it will change you in some ways."

He is right.

My first ever concert, I got to see my favorite band at the time. I even wrote a "review" in my diary (because there was no such thing as a blog or a messageboard back then, haha). Going to the concert not only changed my perspective on the songs from what I heard before on the albums, it changed a lot of things. I am not religious, not even Christian - but going to that first show... man, at the time, that was the closest experience I've had to church, or at least how I envisioned how the perfect church should be.

Going to see a show at such a young age is a wonderful thing. You'll never forget it and I'm really really looking forward to your feedback. ;)

When going to a Chems concert, don't forget to bring the 'special Chems salute'. If you'll do this correctly I'm sure many people will appreciate the effort.

Step 1: find a good crowded spot where people can see you (try creating a circle of people around you and your friend)

Step 2: click heels simultaneously

Step 3: [this is the tricky part] The right arm is raised at an angle of about 135 degrees upwards from the chest and slightly sideways to the right, and is accompanied by the exclamation of the words 'HEIL CHEMS!!!' said in a firm and usually loud voice.

Maybe you can ask your mate to film you while you bring the special Chems salute? That way, you (or one of your surviving family members) can put it on YouTube so we can judge your effort.
