To mix 2 records like Chems or Fatboy Slim - THAT IS something else
well being a dj comes down 3 things. firstly and most importantly, tune selection, secondly set programing and lastly technical ability.
i don't believe fatboy slim or the chemical brothers are in the premier league when it comes to encapsulating all 3 of those constraints.
when i go and here a chemical brothers dj set, i'm going for the tunes, and they also take you on a journey, the set programing is excellent. but they are not so hot on technical ability, tom is the best mixer of the 2, but ed is not so polished. if you hear a chemical brothers set you will hear some dodgy mixes. if you don't mix yourself chances are you don't notice it.
i don't go and see fatboy slim dj any more (apart from the 2 brighton beach partys) cos i find listening to him a painful experience. fatboy slim technically is poor. i can go down my local pub and hear better mixing. he has been very lucky in his carear, he is a great producer, though most of his music is not to my taste. but when he became big back in 1997 he was playing great tunes. but a couple of years later the whole big beat backlash, he was a bit lost in what to play. and i think he is still lost with what to play today. the reason he is still big today is his pesonality is larger than life. and when you go and see a show of his your watching a showman, its all a pantomime.
if you want to go and see real dj's in action go and see the likes of roger sanchez, erick morillo or steve lawler. they are just a handful of dj's who take it to another level.

hey sneakerbeater were we at the same show 8O
they were excellent at both homelands and the week before at fabric..incredible records and very tight mixing..i wouldnt agree that tom is more polished nowdays they both use the mix to really rock the house
thanks for the tracklistings im pretty sure the boys played some new tracks that acid track with the demented drop and scary vocal sample has to be a chems record
but best of all they ended with the track they have done with wayne coyne from the flaming lips..oh my god wait till you hear this it is an incredible record..this compilation is going to be unmissable
during these dj gigs ed and tom looked so excited to be playing their new music and happy to be there which i love to see
i know its in the wrond bit but if tom and ed are checking the track suggestion forum do you think they want to read long discussions about moby's b-sides..i think not
from what i've heard and seeing the two of them i'm convinced the lads are going to return with their best music ever you can see it in their eyes
:P X-D :P

My sentiments exactly. Most threads are OK for that sort of thing like threadjacking, but an official suggestion thread is sacrosanct in the respect it was put there for a real purpose. I can feel the flames now.

That's one thing I noticed when I saw them dj, and played Afrika and Galaxy before Come With Us came out - you could tell it was their own tunes because they got that glint in their eyes. ;) Can't wait to hear what magic Wayne and Bros throw our way!

master p has heard the future, and the future doth rock.
Very powerful description of the new tracks, for sure.
I can't say I shit myself, though. ;) But I do think I mentioned here that I almost wet my pants when I heard about the Flaming Chemicals collab.
