They are different i cant pick one, the bass in 9 is just out of this world i specially like the kraftwerk/tribal feeling of the second half, and 8 well that break is absolutly beautiful.
ebw8 for live performance as a live tune.
ebw9 more club oriented.
both are excellent.

9 for me great beats,
off topic but still worthy, a freind gave me a winny the pooh book with a little electric piano in it and im having a blast playing it, is there anything like a portable piano that you can programm different sounds into it.
because if there is i would buy it in a second

The melodies and harmonics in #8 shine through the shitty compression and artefacts; #9 is really REALLY weakened by it. it sounds like it ought to be tight and dominating!!
So I prefer 8... it's pretty neat. Kinda sounds like a twisted mash-up of the style in Nude Night, The Boxer, and Close Your Eyes. Am I alone there?

He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

eight
I'll be honest with you it took a couple of listens for 8 to sink in...but then again sometimes the best stuff works like that for me.
8's got that feeling. heavy weekend, no sleep, coming home from somewhere.....looking out of a train/car window at the world rushing by....I'm sure a lazy journalist will say wide-screen. I'm not a lazy journalist
there's a very specific trippy vibe that tom and ed tap into time and time again that I can't put my finger on and I'm certain that what helps make music timeless. you can't put your finger on how/why/what/when. that's how it's supposed to be. that otherworldliness
It's also got one of those moments too.
I read somewhere once that a particular producer made sure that every track had a moment in it that made you want to rewind and listen to that bit again. for me it's those clattering drum fills before the beat kicks in....vintage chemical brothers and a proper hairs on the back of the neck moment.
nine
nine is proper basement strobe music, pure and simple. rather tellingly pete tong said "you can tell they have fun making these" and "they make them specifically for those parties" (NYE)
with tom and ed I've always got the impression that as they don't do DJ week in week out there's a level of excitement something akin to the room in front of them and I think that feeds into the music they make for the dance floor. these massive rushy records that nobody else can quite touch
and nine is definitely one those.
sweaty basement acid. a nod to "aprhohead - in thee dark we live" and that chemicals edge of panic sound (copyright random 90's journalist).
I bet they were sat in the studio grinning at each other making it.... thinking about where and when :D
bring on a dark room. a strobe and a fuck off great big system.
in answer to the question. no idea. they're both house
as are Messrs simons and rowlands
cap doffed. again

EBW8 was a surprise when it went all big beat for the 'chorus', and the melody sounds really fresh in a chemical way (I know what I mean, even if you don't! :P ). I like it, as chebbers said - rushy 8)
But EBW9 is my fave, I was standing in my room between the speakers just saying "Oh my god!" every time a new element came in, I was in totally awe at the awesome power!

Great topic - cool to see so many reactions.
It's a hard question - both songs are very different and are unique in their own way. I love to euphoric feeling of EBW8 - And i love the Dirty feeling 9 has.
However i will still choose 8.
I love songs that totally overwhelm me. Songs that when i hear them for the first time i get sort of an emotional feeling over me. Songs that take me away to another place - and that is exactly what EBW8 did.
9 had a different effect on me. It was the 'FUCK YEAH!' pumping youre first in the air kinda feeling X-D
