Phew, ok back from my 6 week holiday and I'm still in on this idea.

My track is just under 5 mins and is a solid 110bpm.

Just need to polish it up, but it will be ready for the deadline.

If we push it forward, it'll lead to procrastination and we'll keep putting in back and it'll never get finished.

i agree with chemicalfan. the deadline's been brought up some time ago. if it was pushed forward there'll never be a result. but we could bring a poll up with that topic :-?

Don't forget, whoever is mixing the CD (anType) gets the tracks by April 1st, but then he's gotta mix them. And, request any necessary edits by the artist.

if i may be so bold.....

if you want the tracks mastered i can devote a little of my time to this. i won't do much to them, but i can put them through ozone (loudness maximiser/limiter, a tiny touch of EQ) and check them out through my monitors. otherwise the CD may sound a little inconsistent - nothing worse for a DJ if some tracks are quieter than others.

just an offer, wont be offended if u say no thanks, not neccesary :)

oh btw u should def do it in WAV - send it as CD to whoevers compiling it.

Good luck!

btw, might be too early, but do we already have someone to do the CD's artwork? i'd suggest robot.mx... :D

Ar! Why WAV? WAV is useless. I'm running Logic Pro 7, so I'm putting the mix straight to CD. Also, I'll need a later deadline to make it.... April 1st (my birthday) is a little too soon!

Also, I volunteer to mix it all pretty in Logic...

I'll give it a shot too if I get some free time, if nobody minds!

update on my track:

- structure decided

- percussion recorded

- some acoustic guitar written

- need to get cousin to write some lyrics, record them
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

yeah, we could have several members working on an artwork each and

a) everyone chooses her/his preferred one or

b) we make up a poll which one should be the "official"

:D

just a suggestion, my main point being that you don't want to degrade the quality by going to MP3 or WMA if it's not strictly neccessary :D

that was a nice suggestion mippio :) We can all submit our tracks by April 1'st but since Glakofahn's birthday is on the fools day ;-) we can make an exception and push the deadline till April 10?...that's just for the birthday boy.

btw : i am gonna submit 2 tracks and then it's up to the dj to deciede as to which one to choose.

Based on chemicalreaction's earlier list, this what the list would look now:

Antype

Chemicalfan

Chemicalreaction

Consumer

Csar

Glako

Liquidfunk(?)

Slipvin

Soundertow

Do you think there are enough people on the list? I removed those who have not been into contact lately. I think there will be all sorts of problems getting everyone on the list to actually push their tracks to mippio/anType by April. But we could always try to make it happen and see what the situation is like after a month has passed by.

I was planning on making a WAV file and compressing it with some good commonly used format, such as ARJ, RAR or ACE. Then I can just supply mippio/anType with a link to the file.

This is coming as a little late advice as many have already composed their tracks (and I haven't even started yet) but I hope people will not be mimicking the chems with this one. I'm confident that you folks can put together original tracks, but the people at www.brainkiller.it have made a couple of forum cd's and Brainkiller being a Prodigy fan site many tracks have names like "Smack The Power Shock Fucker!" and you can probably guess what they sound like. However, they do have a lot of quality stuff too.

It's gotta be originals I'm afraid, for quality reasons.

Either a WAV, or a CDA (burnt to CD, obviously).

For me, my sequencer only uses 44.1K/16 bit WAVs anyway, but other people might be at higher fidelity, so keep the signal as good as you can till the mix, I say!

How would the mastering work? We send the tracks to mippio, then he passes them on? Or it is anType first, and mips fixes the mix?

original huh. but what if all your musical style is based on chemical brothers? i draw a lot of influence from the chems and it is heard throughout my track(s) but anyway i think it's original sorta.

we have to deciede who we sending cd/wav/mp3 file to ? I think everyone on the list sending a cd can and probably will cause troubles. Hey but if everyone agrees on sending a file then i am in. who's in?

I think you misunderstood, reaction.

By originals, I meant WAV or CDA, no compressed formats.

I don't see there being a problem with posting CDs, if you've got enough bandwidth then you could always file transfer the WAV via MSN or something, but it'll probably be around 60-70MB, depending on the length of your song.

Oh, I guess it should have been stated earlier - let's keep this on the legal side. No uncleared samples, yeah?

Yeah no problem. I just wanted to get the thought out there so we will not end up with 10x Acid Children. (which might be cool also ..) With Glako doing some real band stuff and almost all of the resident music-makers (where is c-Row?) contributing too I think the CD will turn out ok when everyone just goes with what fits them the best. 8)

What I meant with the compression was that you would take your precious WAV and compress it to, for an example, RAR format (which is like the most popular ZIP, only better compression and some other abilities). Then mippio/anType can download the file from somewhere and decompress it back to the WAV file. It's lossless compression and should cut at least a third of the filesize.

We could always use MP3 (or even better, OGG). If we use 320kbps then I really don't think anyone will spot any differences and the filesize goes down to about a fifth of the original WAV. This is what the LAME mp3 encoder has to say about it:

For CBR 320kbps (highest quality possible from the --alt-preset switches):

"--alt-preset insane" This preset will usually be overkill for most

people and most situations, but if you must

have the absolute highest quality with no

regard to filesize, this is the way to go.
