It's already banned indoors completely here and, to be honest, I like it. Although I'm a non-smoker, I'm very tolerant of cigarette smoke in general, and I enjoy the odd smoke when I'm out on the piss. But actually being able to breath in bars and come home without my clothes being tinged a nice, ugly shade of yellow is a plus.
Unfortunately, going outside to smoke with friends in -25 C weather sucks mightily.

I think people should be allowed to smoke if they like, particularly in a social atmosphere but I'm not a fan of being burnt so smoking on DANCEFLOORS should be banned! But perhaps the rest of the club and chillout areas you should be free to smoke if you want to... Theres nothing better than a cheeky spliff if you are on one! (and i don t normally smoke!)
Banning ciggys in restaurants is a great idea though... I hate it when some inconsiderate cunt next to you is chainsmoking whilst you tuck in to your main course.
Wetherspoons already has a no smoking policy and it doesn't seem to deter people from going... All I need is some great people, great music and a lotta great beer and its all good with me (wetherspoons seems to be missing these 3 elements.)

haha, cheers. Sounds like you're my type of person! :D
And I wouldn't argue with any suggestion of smoking being allowed in chillout rooms, etc.

i like smoking.
i want to smoke in pubs.
i want to smoke in clubs.
i think resteraunts should have smoking and non smoking sections.
in the long run it prob will be better for my health, but i still dont like the ban.
what baout cars in city centres? i dont drive, yet the damage caused by them is far greater than passive smoking - poses a much higher risk.

Well our ban is happening in 2007 as well....I think you wont be able to smoke around shopping centre or office building doorways anymore either.
I'm gonna love not having sore eyes and smelly hair at work anymore but I will miss the occasional joint I like having at a mad breaks party.

have to agree with you there! I'm neither for or against, I have mates who smoke who will have to step outside to see Mr Tine (first name Nico as one of my workmates puts it!) but its also good cos I won't have to wash my clothes when I get home.

When the indoor smoking ban came into effect in California a few years ago, it was really hard getting used to it. There were times when I'd seriously be jonsing to the point of wanting to incite a riot. Being a smoker, it was no big deal to step outside for a smoke when I was out shopping but at a club or show, it's a different story. Especially with a drink in hand and the tunes playing. It's still hard.
Personally I like that restaurants are non-smoking. Kids don't need to be breathing that shit in when they're eating. Really it's not a big deal if I have to go outside and smoke when I'm at a restaurant. But one thing I miss is the late nite diner excursions where it would be 3am and I could enjoy a nice slice of pecan pie, a couple cups of black coffee and a ciggy all in one go. Not that I get to do that except for the odd blue moon these days, but still.
You can smoke in the Indian casinos out here in California, though.

The whole idea I think is good as its trying to promote better health. But i wonder how far it will go, will smokeing be banned in public places aswell?
There was also a suggestion of the idea that people who do smoke will be denyed healthcare with the priority going to non smokers. Hopefully this would encorage people to stop.
