I cant believe Liam Howletts getting DJ props - SHITE
he never plays out, when he does he passes off dodgy mixing & tune selection as 'eclectic' and he used a computer to do the dirtsessions and tried to pass it off as hip-hop style skills
mippio says - - TWADDLE
chems always rock it though, regardless of mixing technique ;-)

a bit strong to say tom and ed cant mix, but i know what you mean. FC/ Kahuna are awesome, seen them dj many times and saw them play their 3 third ever live show at creamfields 2002. i cant believe how underrated this band are. 'machine says yes' is dig your own hole for 2002!!

yeah, maybe a little strong, they can sling a beat mix together, but they're def not 3 deck maestro's! many a time ive seen ed slosh back a big swill of vodka and attempt to wrestle some unfathomable mix in :D i think its part of their charm really, and definitely doesnt make them any 'worse' dj's. its more about tune selection and doing the right programming rather than seamless beatmixing using sterile tunes. i went to see terry francis the other night, and as much as i love techy house, he was just really dull - very samey tunes, breakdowns which all sounded the same and bugger all emotion - i could handle 2 or 3 of the tunes he played if it was part of a varied set, but the same groove for 2 hours? nah.
FC Kahuna - top notch! i totally agree with you about machine says yes, that album is sooooooo underated. it even got re-released when they left city rockers and went to skint, but still no one picked up on it :( shame really, i think its really good, just what dance music needed. havent seem them live yet, but a mate of mine did and said he thought they maybe could have done with a bit more prescence on stage?? would you agree? seen them dj a few times though, i like it when they go all deep and wibbly - -great fun. and another fine mess was good too.
now layo & bushwaka live - they def rock it!! :D

that first comment is a little naive. yes i have listened to 'confront your demons', i was the one who posted the link to the streaming audio on this forum. also i have a copy of the promo winging its way in the post as we speak!! but i'd bet my entire chemical brothers collection that it was recorded in the studio, rather than a live recording. therefore you'd expect the mixing to be spot on. i know what tom and ed mixing is like, i've seen them dj 13 or 14 times. i'm not knock the brothers, cos there dj sets are great fun. but mippio was right when he was commenting about there mixing technique.
Anyway with respect to FC/ Kahuna, top man mr souphead, your one of a very few people on this forum that has witnessed the shear audio delight of dan and jon kahuna!! treat yourself to a drink on me ;-)

I love FC Kahuna too. Someone suggested it when I asked for recommendations (thanks to whoever that was) and I went out and got it. I like Hayling (track 7), I mixed that with the instrumental version of golden path (actually I just took the end with the noises that I guess would be 'delta fx'). It's great after a minute of the noise you get the organ randomly and fits perfect (tempo and all)
And nice picture!

every thing prior to machine says yes is a bit hit and miss (mainly miss). there was one tune they did around 97/98 which is keen, 'bright morning white'.
my mission on this forum is to spread the kahuna word!! its better than suggesting music under the old 'big beat' banner that was made 5 to 7 years ago.

I went to a "Freaker's Ball" party on Saturday night. I tried playing "Confront Your Demons", but it didn't get a great response.. :(
I guess the maybe it didn't really fit the mood, or maybe I should have played it after we had all eaten some, er, fungus.......
But what they DID like, a LOT, was a CD called "Baby Anne - Mixed Live". Have you guys heard of her? She's breakbeats and stuff, so not like chems really at all. She's from the US somewhere (Florida, I think), so maybe that's why people over here liked it so much. One of the guys at the party was a DJ who mostly spins "Hardcore" techno, and I don't know think it was just the 'shrooms, but he really really liked it: "Good Call!!" :)
