Portishead are back in the studio working on their fourth album, which they hope to release by the end of 2010, Geoff Barrow has confirmed.

Well, I'm pleasantly surprised that they're releasing a new album so soon. I kind of had it in my mind that they weren't for many more years.

Portishead reveal new album plans

Bristol band sign new record deal and start writing
Portishead's Geoff Barrow has revealed to 6 Music that the band have signed a new record deal and that he'll start writing material for a new album this summer.

In an exclusive interview backstage at this year's Glastonbury, Barrow, who is currently touring with his side project Beak>, said he's hopeful fans won't have to wait eleven years for this record - as they did for Third.

6 Music's Rodrigo Davies spoke to Barrow.
