Hi!
Block Rockin' Beats
It's a very good rockin' tune and I love the way the beats go around. Wouldn't say that is too mainstream-like. It was the beginning of a new(er) sound I think... 8/10
Dig Your Own Hole
Oh my goodness!!! These beats are incredible, as well as the bassline! But there's a little (tiny little) BUT: I think the part that starts at minute 2 (where the bass is changing) could be repeated on more time at least. And they could have shortened the break with the up-pitched synth (3rd minute). That's all.. 8/10
Elektrobank
It's also a very veeery good sounding track. One could say a continue of DYOH concerning the beats just emphasized. These ones, when the person is speaking could be repeated one more time too. 7.5/10
Piku
Year, great one. Nice up-broken beats with nice synths and effects. Like this much. Listening to Elektrobank it gives you a rest to calm down a bit.
7.99999/10
Setting Sun
You have to listen to it several times to love it but when you do so you'll love it, just like me. Ok, the guitar, when it get distorted, could be hard for your ears but the beats are comensating for ear's pain X-D 7.5/10
It doesn't matter
Well, I think it's not a nice track. The brothers have made otherones much better songs than this one. At the beginning it's very promising (bassdrum and snare sound real-played) but then it's really disappointing to me. It has no variation in it. Was a simple techno-track. And I dislike techno. 0.5/10
Don't stop the rock
Yeah the beginnig is quite good!!! (big beatish), but then the same as the one before... Don't know where's the rock that hasn't to be stopped???
0.5/10
Get Uo On It like This
Wow, it's really my cup of tea and hits my breakbeat-lovin' taste!!! The one (or two) thing(s) is(are) it's too short and the first part could be repeated in this longer version. Every time I listen to it I understand, when the man is speaking, " verdunkeln, verdunkeln.." (English:darken)
9.5/10
Lost in the K-hole
Nothing to say. Great song that lets your feet start moving. Love the bassline and the bells (or whatever it is). Wonderful.
9.5/10
Where Do I start...
Like on every album released by the brothers there's a quite and chilly track. Very good transfered. Beth Orthon has a beautiful voice and the breaks make the track rounded off.
8/10
The Private...
Damn, one of the best track the brothers have ever made!!! I like the clarinet of Jonathan Donahue very much, and again the beeeats. I think that was why I fell in love with big beat. The track has got such a nice atmosphere, simply wow!!!
11/10

I'd have to say you're way off about Don't Stop The Rock and It Doesn't Matter. Gotta be a little more openminded... You say you don't like them because they lack variation and complexity but, because this is COMPLETELY FALSE, I think the reason you don't like them is because they aren't "big beat."
He put on a turn-down collar, a black bow, and wore his Sunday tail-coat. As such, he looked spruce, and what his clothes would not do, his instinct for making the most of his good looks would.

I think the chems are a bit too "big beat". I mean, they did pretty much define the genre, but when I listen to some of their songs, I cant help but notice and point out some of the predictable sounds and mixing methods alot of people seem to be using.
But but but... too big beat? :? I think it's just a part of the grain here, just a part of their style. Thor, do you mean the Chems using the same methods/mixing styles as other people, or is it the other way around: people using the methods/mixing style of the Chems?
I always felt it was the latter. But that's just me opinion. :)

No no don't get me wrong! Has nothing to do with breakbeat at all. "Out of Control", "Hey Boy Hey Girl", "Got Glint?" are very beautiful tracks to name just a few of non-big beat stuff. But the ones are so much more varied than these two songs on DYOH. That's what I believe..

:? Ooooooookaaaaaay...
I never said my opinion is right and Thor's is wrong. I didn't think this was a game and I apologize if I came across as a know-it-all. Last time I checked, I wanted to continue discussing so I asked a question mainly for clarification purposes since I think he brought up a valid point - and I just threw in my 2 cents to boot.
