There was no hold tight london, which annoyed me....

But they did many great songs but i really missed: Life is sweet...

Does anyone know what the name is of the song they did, there there was a clown on the background-screens and the only phrase in the song was: and now you're mine or something like that... it annoys me that i don't know the name of the song...

If I'm not mistaken it's Electronic Battle Weapon 7.

The setlist on the French gig thread says 'Acid Children', but I'm not Chemical-learned enough to say wether both tracks are the same! I should buy the singles more.. :?

yeah that's right, that's Electronic Battle Weapon 7 as known as Acid Children. The clown says : "You are all my children now"

More things were annoying to me (long breaks, machine malfunctioning??), maybe i was expecting too much but i thought it would be another great party like the other gig in the HMH in amsterdam.

Enyoyed my time with the big bass though, only the chems can make the floor vibrate

I think the long breaks are intentinal, there is allways sound of some sort that they are playing with. I dnt like it when a gigt is over loud and you feel your heart vibrate.

In Paris, the sound going on during the break was probably seriously threatening the sound system (and our ears), and a roadie went onstage to soften it, and you could see the gut thinking "Damned Tom, where hte hell is this sound coming from)

They played Hold tight London, here, and it was quite strange to hear it live.

Overall, i was disappointed with the sound wuality, which appeared quite muddy to me (the bass was sometimes eating out everything, the synth patches used here and there seemed wrong (golden path)...) but maybe it is juste because +I was standing too close to the speakers...

they say they do not like playing in France too much becaus we have (theorically) these legal limitations, so maybe the sound system was not powerfu enough and distorded everything, but I was so clos to the speakers that the distortion could also have come from my ears...

I've heard the same thing in the past, TyrptaJunk. Last Coachella where the Chems played live, my friend was up at the very front, and she said though the show was great, the sound seemed distorted and even muddy in parts. You figure being directly in front of the source of all that huge noise, being in the epicenter of the blast radius would cause that effect.

I don't think this phenomenon is avoidable - but I wonder what the Chemical's touring crew could do to ease the distortion and play down whatever muddiness it is that people are noticing when they are up in the front. I imagine things sound good during a soundcheck of course, but that sound changes when you've got a room full of moving people and two crazy men twiddling and tweaking with all those sounds!

I remember at Pink Floyd, there were huge speaker stacks set up all around the stadium. I'd never seen anything quite like that before or since. Not only was the sound panasonic and offered some cool live effects, but I imagine those speakers placed advantageously around the stadium must've had another purpose - which was to alleviate the stress of having all the sound come directly from one up-front source.

Maybe there's some engineering wizzes here that can explain what's going on and how the sound works itself out in a live setting!
be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle

From what i've read in an interview, Tom mixes down the sounds to 8 buses, and thoses buses are sent to the main engineer who mixes them again in surround. this way, you get sweeps comming from behind you and synths twirling around you...

this is why they say they take their own sound system with us on tour. i do not really know about thaty. obviously not at festivals.

At Le Zenith, I wasn't able to spot any surround speakers, but there were some for sure, although, being at the front, it did not really make a difference to me, but friends of mind at the back said there were surround effects, but barely noticeable given the power of the front speaker stack. they also moved from the moshpit to the seats and noticed a big drop in power after a few meters of crowd.

I should have taken advantage of the room geometry to try to move al ittle bit farther, and on top, where my friends where, they told me the light show is way more impressing when you get a global picture. plus it would have savec my ears, I was quite worried on the next morning, seemed like the last ARP screams from the Reel got stuck somewhere behind my eardrum...

But I wanted to be a real trainspotter, trying to understand what they are doing on the rig. I was on the left side, so i haven't had a chance to watch the job done on the mpc, but we got a good vie of Ed tweaking Doepfers and playing the octopad. he didn't seem to be very busy though, sometimes he just wandered around the stage...

I was standing at the back of the pit, and I didn't notice surround effects, only stereo effects. The light show was amazing from there too, but we didn't get to see much of Tom and Ed.. Life's full of unbearable decisions to make ! ha ha
