it's complex, because the replicants aren't so much supposed to be clones, but more like a manufactured person.

In the book, they were straight up androids.

Love Blade Rinner. Should've watched that today. Watched Trainspotting this afternoon instead before lying down for a nice long nap.

what do you mean?

he did fine in the Michel Gondry movie and he was outstanding in Man on the Moon. he can act

I think Jim Carrey's rubberfaced antics are tiresome, but he does have his moments when he's in comedic roles. It's just that he was typecast as one sort of character for so long and that's sort of the image he's been tagged with. I am also not a fan of his sappy roles, either.

I do think he can act, though and for what it's worth he's shown himself to be quite a dynamic actor. He seems to have an earnest approach which is why I think he pulled off Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind so well. He also has a sinister streak which he pulled off well in the underrated Cable Guy.

I think Blade Runner is a masterpiece. Not just in the story, but the art direction, the use of light and shadow give the movie this opulent, film noir classy and timeless feel - these are all aspects that are incredibly difficult to pull off for a sci fi film, so cinematically it set a precedent for sci fi movies that followed it. And quite frankly, IMO, there's been some astounding sci fi films since then but none that are quite of this calibre. Blade Runner was, is and always will be the embodiment of cyberpunk... And there's glorious hints of subtle religious symbolism that you probably wouldn't catch the first time or the 2nd time or even 3rd time. But I can see why Blade Runner might not hold the same kind of appeal now as it did then... and I don't mean to pull out the age card, but most younger people I've known (like, people that I've got at least a good 10-15+ years on) don't really care for the movie at all. It's not your typical glossy sci-fi action flick, it requires your undivided attention as it's more "thinky" and moves at a slower pace.

Basically - the film is complex not so much in why things are the way they are, but why things came to be. What happened to humanity, society. And the consequences of why this came to be that's burdened the future society which, in the film, seems to be at constant odds: the latest technology amidst a backdrop of architectural decay, organic life forms versus simulated life, the crowded metropolis with no real outreach or feel for community. Discussing the premise of the film and trying to dissect its complexities is a really tedious task and I'm afraid I'm not up for writing a novel at the moment. But if one was to evaluate or approach discussing the film on a level deeper than what you see on screen, I think the best way would be from a philosophical point of view. The film poses questions - who are we, why are we here, how long do we have to live, can we feel love, can something created be loved and show love - those sorts of things which test our humanity so to speak, make us ponder what it means to be human. The replicants are really vessels in which to approach these age old questions that every living person ponders at some point in their life. To understand the story likely requires repeated viewing or better yet reading the Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep.

Anyway. That's enough psycho, near nonsense babble from me.

The Boondock Saints - fucking great film with great actors.Gotta love the " Funny Man" and one of my fave movie quotes " Catch u on the flipside! "

Anyways i am really into this tv series called " Entourage" right now. Watched the entire first season yesterday. Its about an upcoming actor in Hollywood and his friends who moved to Hollywood with him and all their adventure's. Lots of cameo's of famous people in it.

the clone not killing the polive officer could be a metaphor for saying that people being used as slave labor even if they are not *human* in the most literal sense. cannot work because of the moral objections and that they will break out and start killing people yada yada....

so i guess he realized this and that he doesent have a place in humanity so he just died?(i dont know if he was just at the end of his life cycle or what)

Ah - not to get too techy but the androids (replicants, skin jobs) are not clones. Clones as we know them scientifically, bleed and feel because they are human, organic. Because the replicants embody qualities that are human does not necessarily make it so - it's just that the replicants have, in their short lives, managed to gain human qualities and emotion - empathy, fear, love, anger, sadness. Some even have flase memories. Whether this was a programming glitch on replicants (not counting Rachel) or something that was learned by the replicants is up for debate. You may have to wrack your brain and dig deeper - the scene with Deckard and Roy is so much more than replicants not having a human place in human society. They already know they have no place or else they wouldn't have been hunted. When Roy dies, he knows what he's known all along in that he cannot stop fate, or time. He didn't die because he had no place in society, he died because his time was up. Replicants are only given a short time to live. That's pretty much the crux of the film right there.

And the origami unicorn, which Slipvin mentioned. The tail end of the film which indicates that Deckard may not be what he thinks he is. ;)

well replicant and clone are very simaler both are humans but both dont have real parents and may be altered in some way, i guess a clone is supposed to be a copy of some one but a replicant is original. and as for the oragami thing at the start of the movie i suspected that he might be but it didint pan out the way i had hoped and after that sean where the replicant doesent kill him i just turned it off becaus i had enough.

Agreeing with Slipvin feels stranger than I imagine having a broom handle put up my bum would.

This is not pleasant. Agreeing with Slip, that is.
