Don't believe the hype. MDMA has not been proven to be physically addictive in all the years it was made available through prescription by a doctor. I've taken e plenty of times and although I agree there is a certain degree of psychological dependence on it as much as anything else on the streets or shelves, psychological dependence is quite subjective and is very hard to pin down. Physically addictive, well, no government studies have proven anything yet but we do know that it causes a serotonin loss which in turn creates those feelings of lovey dovey euphoric feelings of... lovey doveyness. It takes about a week for the brain to replenish the lost serotonin, you can't take MDMA day after day after day like you would a drink. When MDMA was legal, people were not dying from overdosing if taken properly. The problem with ecstacy - or street MDMA - is that it's likely cut with all kinds of other shit including speed, which is very highly addictive physically and psychologically. Rogue ecstacy (usually DXM in the U.S.) is what kills people, not pure form MDMA which is hard to get if not impossible to obtain anyway. Also a lack of educating oneself before they pop a few pills is what lands people in the hospital. Also people cocktailing their drugs will cause a trip to the er. There are do's and don't's to just about everything that alters your well-being, reaction time, etc - ecstacy is no exception.
Best thing is just to educate yourself, talk to people about the ups and downs and what to expect and how to take care of yourself shoudl the situation arise and you find yourself going under the influence. MDMA will never be legal in the States again and will forever be caught up in the same web that marijuana is. Unfortunately, that creates a whole lot of room for shit to hit the streets that will cause physical and psychological damage.

You can talk about anything on this website. I once read a topic about a chemical brothers track, it was crazy.
Unforgiveable!!!
I study pharmaceutical chemistry. If you tell me what tat acronime is for, maybe I could tell you something about and then my opinion.
In general: drugs are good, dipendence isn't. Look at my face: 8O

Remember boys and girls this is coming from a pharmaceutical chemist. Just trying to lead the youth in the right direction, you know.
I'm not the only one who burst out laughing, right?

when i started my pill honeymoon late 98/99 i had the time of my life. it also change my whole outlook on life. it made me more comfortable with who i am, and taught me to love myself, and others around me. the ability to empathise with people was amazing. the chats i had with my friends when i was 'fucked' were so open. those were the days, like the film 'human traffic' where you'd just live for the weekend.
but with every up there is a down. and when you do ecstasy that down is normally called tuesday!! with any drug you do, you gotta respect it. when the bad time out weigh the good, you know its time to stop.
there are arguments for legalizing drugs, mainly if they were controlled by the right people, you would guaranty quality (not cutting the drug with something dangerous). also you would not be supporting organised crime.
but then again if you legalise a drug are you sending out the wrong message?? plus who knows the long term effect of ecstasy abuse.
my personal opinion is that most drugs are better off being illegal. but in the UK, how we go about dealing with the whole issue is wrong. its a case of ignoring what is happening and saying 'we have to send the message that doing drugs is wrong' the whole issue is black and white, if you do drugs your breaking the law. but nothing in the real world is black and white.
just make sure your sensible out there people

It's good that you are so open about your experiences like that sneakerbeater. My experiences just about mimic yours, except there are factors in my life, these things that keep me grounded, that prevent me from going off the deep end should an odd night out beckon me. Which rare as far as ecstasy goes.
Not saying it never happens anymore but the honeymoon is definitely over!!
The good thing is I don't have any regrets, never had - and I wouldn't have it any other way...
