Monty Python Holy Grail Ale England

Quality name for a beer!! Where in England did you get that from?

It's made by Black Sheep Brewery and is more of a novelty than anything else. It's nothing special at all, but has a cool label. :D

What I wouldn't give for a Strong Suffolk right now.... Unfortunately, it's no longer available here.

Description from Greene King Brewery website:

"This Strong/Old Ale is a unique beer that perpetuates the monastic tradition of blending strong mature ale with fresh young beer to give vigorous flavour and depth of character. A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special. A superb before, during or after dinner drink, or something to savour while watching the footy."

8O Beautiful, simply beautiful.

Those of you in England (or California for that matter!) run out and try this. You're unlikely to be disappointed. I loved it the first time I tried it and was subsequently surprised to find out it ranks among world-renowned beer conoissseur Michael Jackson's favourites.

I really wish I'd thought to take a picture with my cellphone when we were there. My mind reels at the thought of that cooler..... 8O

To be honest, I'm not sure I've had a real quality beer since I've returned, besides the case of Heineken I picked up at the duty free (and that's not exactly the most exciting beer either). I've drank a lot of crap or near-crap when going out because I've been trying to be budget-conscious, but mostly I've just not been drinking at all. (I also haven't had much time to go out with friends this semester.)

There are even 5 or 6 new beers at the local liquor store that I've yet to try and I can't be bothered to go get them. Am I growing up? 8O

I order you to hold back on your alcohol intake for the time being. Not because of health reasons, but so you can save as much as you can for your trip.

I don't want to read about you holding back in London. Tom, Ed and Q-Tip would be very disappointed.

Tom & Ed will be able to see just how not holding back I'll be for themselves!

But I'd really like to do it for Q-Tip. The man is a living legend and if he says I shouldn't hold back, I won't hold back. Props. Werd. Respect. Yo.

From Modern Brewery Age:

Anheuser-Busch plans to test market a caffeinated version of Natural Light called Natty Up, according to a report published in Advertising Age.

-----------

Please for the love of god, at least change the name before you put that swill on the market. "Natty Up"? I suppose it will complement the snuff and muscle shirts at NASCAR events.... Oh wait, no it won't...... Fuckin hell......

Alrighty, I just found an amazingly good beer.

From Edinburgh, it's Innis & Gunn's Oak Aged Beer. Here's the description, which tastes exactly like they make it sound.

"For 30 days, this honey-hued beer sleeps in hand selected oak barrels, locked inside a bonded warehouse, gradually assimilating the subtle flavours that reside in the wood. Barrels are then emptied and maturation continues for a further 47 days in a marrying tun where these natural flavours infuse and fall into perfect balance. This 77-day process is unique and produces a delicious, refreshing beer: Aromas of vanilla and toffee, hints of citrus, with a malty, lightly oaked, palate. Deftly balanced and light in texture, soothing and warming in the finish."

The description is about perfect, and it's not too oakey at all. Not a session beer, but at 6.6% by volume, you can definetly feel it. So glad I decided to hit the beer store tonight.

I'm enjoying it with a nice-sized piece of cave-aged swiss gruyere cheese. This cheese has literally been aged in a cave for one year. Very nutty tasting but still creamy and absolutely delicious. Maybe matching the Fuller's Honeydew I had twenty minutes ago a little better, but still a good combo.

Anyway, I definetly recommend picking this beer up if you see it. Good times.

It's definetly a sipping beer and as I drink more of it, a whiskey taste is becoming more prominent. I think the cheese is starting to throw off my palate, too. Still, it's very nice, especially as a change from the MGD/Alexander Keith's IPA/other crap I've been reduced to lately.

Well if it's a sipping beer, then it's perfect for me since I tend to nurse a beer over a longer period of time than most people. Plus lately, I've become a real cheap date, I don't drink the way I used to and it doesn't take much to get me loopy.

I was just thinking, if you decide to blow off your pharmacy courses, you could always move to California and get a job at the Hi-Time Cellars! I think you definitely have what it takes! X-D

I'm the same way these days. I haven't really had anything more substantial than a Rice Krispie square or two to eat today and so I'm already getting quite buzzed after just 2 beers. Pretty sad! I'll definetly have to eat a lot more in London if I'm going to survive!

When they start offering 6-figure salaries, let me know! :D

(I was disappointed to find out California requries a PharmD degree to practice there. Oh well, I'll just have to go for another couple years of school after this.... [and then my MBA, and then.....].)

Yeah, it's amazing that no matter how much money you can make, it never seems to last even a few days longer.

yeah... oh well, it's not important whether or not I'm broke next week, the only thing that IS important is that I party as hard as I can right now
