a copy of it was on ebay 2 or 3 days ago. My guess is it's recent and the name has something to do with the Golden Path (which talks about demons)

I got most of the DJ_mix promo things on mp3. It is so hard or expensive to get.

Yeah it was ebay.com I saw it a few hours before the end. The top bidder had a chems-related name so I figured they deserved it as much as me (thereby justifying me bein cheap and not bidding). I'd rather hear what they have this time around in person, since astralwerks said they were going to DJ the US.

It was titled something like "Chemical brothers DJ set confront..." not too many people looked at it (17 about 9 hours before the end) it looked like the paris djset promo, nothing like in glint or anti nazi where it was a large-scale promotion. When are they going to do one of those CDs for a live (non DJ) set!?!

Chances are that you wont find Confront your Demons. If you do, it's a rarity, if your a colletor you'll prolly want to spend some cash on it.

Yesterday I made a attempt to get one of those promo's.

How?????

I called the person that was stated on the Paris live dj set promo.

At Virgin England they didn't know any Lucy Boughten.

They asked me: "what do you do?"

"Are you a dj, or from a radio station?"

So I explained it all (I'm a collector) and they said: "You should call Virgin Holland".

After that I called Virgin Holland and they said: PROMO??????

You should buy the album when it gets in the shops.

When I told them that these wouldn't get into the shops because it are DJ sets. He sounded surprised: "how do you know about these promo's"

"There not officially in circulation yet." "We don't even have them ourselves.

"when they get in circulation they only get distributed to radio stations"

"They'll play it sooner or later."

So I'm like: "Please, send me one"

His reply: "No we don't make a habit of sending promo-stuff to ordinary people." Thanks for calling but I'm sorry that I can't send it to you".

"bye-bye"

My reply: "bye"

So I didn't get one :'(

But if I didn't try I knew for sure that I never get one.

BUT CALLING CHEMICAL FANS WHO COLLECT ALL STUFF FROM THE CHEMS: ORDINARY PEOPLE. }:-@ }:-@

That's not a nice thing to say.

your mistake?..........saying you were a collecter, i know record company's, and they HATE collecters, they bootleg stuff and have promo's before they are even released to dj's etc. etc.

watch a pro at work, ill have one of the paris and the confront by next week 8)

Well Gundhi at least you asked. That's dedication! You never know til you try!!

The guy at Virgin England has a point though. Promos usually aren't given to the general public no matter how bgt a collector you are, because financially it doesn't make sense to give something away for free when a person can buy the same songs when it hits store shelves. They aren't making a profit and music's a biz. Some people sell promos either privately or some people sell those promos to used record stores which are then sold to regular cusomters (a really big no-no... a store can be shut down or heavily fined if they are selling promo items for profit... which I always found interesting because labels and artists don't make a profit from used/second hand records anyway.) This tactic is to help protect record companies who don't make a profit, as well as the artist who never sees a penny from any promotional release. Plus I think a lot of record companies are cracking down on the amount of promos that go out. Maybe it has to do with cost, internet leaks, illegal selling of promos, whatever. 9 years ago when I was working at Tower, promos were given to us employees like candy on Halloween (and most of us were broke, so we sold them to shady second hand record stores to help pay our rent - shhh, don't tell! actually my husband lost his job at his record store because he was caught selling promos to a rival store, which was eventually shut down for selling bootlegs- no lie!) Nowadays promos, at least in the record store employee world, are becoming fewer and farther between.

I imagine you probably weren't the only one who's called a label and asked for promos. I think these people realize how important promo items are to collectors... I understand the position those guys are in - they have an obligation to protect their label, the artists and their jobs. But I also know how you feel. It's never fun being rejected especially if you want something because you love a band enough to collect their stuff.

But way release DJ-set promo's?? I don't know a radio show here in Holland which would play a whole DJ-set. I think record company's if they want to release such a thing should release it to the fans. Maybe even through a website such like this. Can't the Brothers do anything about this? If I'm not mistaking all their releases goes through their own label, freestyle dust, first. Keep our fingers crossed.

It's pretty much always been the way that dj's get promos of all sorts including the dj-mix ones with various songs - so they can play it (or snippets of it) and get people interested enough to buy the music. I understand the frustration though, a dj mix or comp record is ideal for a collector or just people who admire one band and want to explore the same kinds of music. It would be nice if something like Confront Your Demons was a limited edition dealie. I would like a promo mix I just won't pay money for a promo. I agree I think it would be great to have promo giveaways to fans once in a while, going to people that would for sure love to have it and not turn around and make a profit off it but it's really up to the label whether or not they want to take that kind of risk because that's money out of their pocket. A promo swag giveaway with posters and singles and stickers and stuff like that would be a fun giveaway through a site like this and generate good joy joy feelings all around. :D I don't think the Brothers could do anything about the ways of distribution, but they may have some pull. Look what they did for fans with the release of It Began In Afrika! But back to the point, if the music/promos is given away to all the fans then there'd be no way the artist would make any money from music sales.

So let me sum up all negatives about promo's:

-the artist don't get money for all those promo's in circulation

-people who work in record shops, at labels and all the other people who get promo's. don't buy the official records.

-we, collectors/fans of one special artist (in my case CB) don't get the promo for free and must pay loads of money for promo's.

Shouldn't they at all quit with making Promo's then? :-?

I would like to get my hands on the promo's mentioned earlier in this thread. So I will visit a lot CD/vinyl fairs and pay shitloads of money.

If I even can find them. :x

But thanks you all here at this forum for your support:

promo's are made so that dj's and journo's get to hear the music forst and hype the release. quite simple. its a secondary thing that they've become collectors items
